About this resource
"I can't do it." Add one word and it changes: "I can't do it yet." This is 27 pages of posters, sort cards and desk strips that put that word in front of children every day. Print what you need.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (27 pages)
- 4 posters, each in color and in an ink-saver version with outline lettering (8 poster sheets): I Can't...Yet, Fixed Mindset vs Growth Mindset, Stuck? Try This, and Mistakes Help Me Learn.
- 16 sort cards to cut (8 fixed mindset words, 8 growth mindset words) and 2 sort mats to glue them on, with an answer key.
- 8 self-talk swap strips to cut: 6 with "Instead of... I can say..." and 2 blank strips for a child's own swap.
- 8 desk strips to cut, each with a name line.
- 32 pieces to cut on 4 cut sheets, edge to edge so each cut is one straight line.
- 2 student pages: My Growth Page (write what is hard, draw me trying) and My Yet Chart (color a star each time I try again).
- Teacher pages: a week of short lessons, a family note with blanks, a phrase bank of starters, a class tally, a filled example (an invented class), a binder cover with spine and 4 tabs, a start-here contents page.
- Terms of use and a thank-you page.
How To Use It
Hang the "I Can't...Yet" poster and say it together. Children cut the sort cards, sort them on the mat and glue, then read the swap strips aloud. Tape a desk strip to each desk. The week plan on page 4 puts it in five short lessons.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
Student pages have a big My name line, one short direction, big writing space with primary handwriting lines, and big cards you can cut with a few straight cuts. Everything reads in black and white too. Lettering and shapes only: no brain pictures, no photos.
Type In, Or Print
The name lines on the desk strips, the blank swap strips, the family note and the class tally are type-in fields in any PDF reader (154 fields in all). You can also print any page and write by hand. Print at 100 percent with fit-to-page turned off. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides, Canva or PowerPoint file, and the posters are not editable text.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten to 5th grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, counselors and small groups, bulletin boards and desks.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
Working paper and classroom posters for talking about effort and self-talk. It is not a behavior plan, a curriculum or a therapy tool, and it promises no outcome.
