About this resource
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 16 pages, 130 type-in fields
- One Show It, Take Turns, Read It board: three request-and-respond slots (Show me, Now it's your turn, That means) and a six-picture match — with its own 6 cut-apart cards on the same sheet
- The board twice: a full-color set for a laminated binder and a black-and-white ink-saver set for the photocopier
- 12 cut-apart picture cards in all, counting the color set and the home page once
- A two-week tracker: 4 board jobs down, Monday to Friday across, one letter per cell (no help / pointed once / said the words / not run), a "no help" count per row, a week total for each week and a "start here next" field
- A binder organizer: a front cover, a spine strip and eleven divider tabs (six of them blank)
- A home version: the same show-and-read cards, sized for the kitchen table, with a seven-day "we did it" row
- A family update with a team hand-off block for the next adult who runs the binder
- A phrase bank: 24 lines in 6 groups (spoken lines for running the board, written starters for the note afterward)
- A filled example — an invented student, one week, every count re-counted from its own row
- An answer key listing the board, the cards it takes and what correct looks like, the full word list, and a common-everyday-meaning table with a blank column for the team's own wording
- Start Here, a contents page with page thumbnails, and a "what's next" back page
A hand-gestures vocabulary binder built on one six-word bank run through three request-and-respond jobs on a single board: Show me (expressive/requesting), Now it's your turn (turn-taking) and That means (receptive/interpreting), plus a picture match. Most matching binders stop at the board; this one adds the two-week tracker, the family update and the phrase bank behind it, so a common gesture turns into weeks of counts a case manager can bring to a meeting.
The Board
- Show It, Take Turns, Read It (page 6 in color, page 7 in ink-saver) — the board stays whole above a cut line; the card band below cuts apart. Three slots for the three jobs, and a six-picture match (thumbs up, thumbs down, peace sign, ok hand, fist bump, pointing up): the child matches the identical card onto its picture.
The Words
- Gesture cards (6): thumbs up, thumbs down, peace sign, ok hand, fist bump, pointing up
- Home page — the same six words, sized for the kitchen table
Every picture was chosen to be named in one word by a young child, in color AND in the black-and-white set. Two of the six carry a real Unicode name that does not match the everyday word: 270c is named "Victory Hand," not "peace sign," but the rendered picture in both sets is unmistakably the two-finger V gesture, not a fist, so it is labeled "peace sign" throughout; 1f446 is named "White Up Pointing Backhand Index" — it points UP, not sideways — so it is labeled "pointing up" everywhere on the page to match what is actually drawn. All six were also checked against `art.fluent.folder_for()` to confirm the codepoint resolves to the right Fluent asset folder, not just that a picture exists. Six is exactly this collection's per-board picture floor; no word was dropped.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the tracker, the organizer, the home page and the family update, or print and use a pen. The board page prints on cardstock or plain paper; the card band cuts off the bottom and the board stays whole. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document, and it is not a test of anything. It is also NOT American Sign Language and does not teach a signed language — the six cards are common, everyday classroom gestures used as picture-and-word vocabulary, the same way any other picture card in this collection is.
It carries no prompt hierarchy, fading schedule or mastery rule, and it does not decide what a count means for a student or when a board is done with. The tracker counts which board jobs were done and what help was given, and nothing else.
Who This Is For
Special education teachers and paraprofessionals running functional-communication practice — expressing, taking turns and interpreting a common gesture — with early, pre-reading or low-verbal students, case managers who need that practice to show up as data, and the families who get the home page.
More In The Collection
This binder pairs naturally with the Feelings and Emotions Matching Binder and Community Signs Matching Binder; more matching binders and sort task boxes are being added to the Morning Work & Adapted Books Collection regularly, all on the same board-plus-tracker shape.
