About this resource
A child who traces the letter beautifully and then, with the dots gone, draws it from the bottom up
does not need a prettier tracing sheet. That child needs the start dot and the arrows for a while, then
a page where the dots fade out, then a page with nothing but a picture cue. This is that: every letter
of the alphabet, three pages each, on one rule.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (95 pages)
- 78 practice pages — 26 letters x 3 pages, in letter order, each with its capital and small letter
- 2 formation charts to post — every capital and every small letter with its numbered start dots and
direction arrows, drawn exactly as they appear on the practice pages
- 2 whole-alphabet review pages (capitals, small letters) and 1 blank practice page on the same rule
- 1 letter tracker (one student, 26 letters) and 1 class grid (whole class x A-Z), type-in or print
- 1 family page — the week's letters, three plain steps, a practice rule to send home, and a note box
each way
- 1 filled example — an invented student's tracker, every number on it read off its own table
- 1 phrase bank — progress-note, family-note and next-step starters, observations with blanks
- 1 binder cover with a spine label and six divider tabs
- Start Here, a how-to-read-a-page key, and a letter index that gives every page number
The Three Pages For Every Letter
1. Trace — two big guided models (capital and small) with a numbered start dot on every stroke and
arrows along the path, then five rows: the first two letters in each row carry the arrows, the rest
carry the start dots only, and the last row is the capital-and-small pair.
2. Trace and Write — no arrows. Each row is two dark dotted letters, two faint ones, then three empty
spaces to write in. Six rows, pairs last.
3. Write — the picture and the word are the only cue ("A is for apple"). Two rows for the capital, two
for the small letter, one row for the word.
The three dots on the name line are the level code, there for the teacher: no student page carries a
level word, and every page is the same slate tone, so nobody's paper is obviously the easy one.
The Rule And The Pictures
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, the tracker, the class grid, the family page and the binder cover are type-in
fields in any PDF reader. The tracing rows are always pencil work. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a
Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Self-contained, resource and early-intervention rooms, and any K-2 classroom with students who are
learning to form letters. Pairs with this store's Handwriting Fluency Progress Monitoring Probes, which
measure rate for a goal; this pack is the teaching side.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A print-and-trace practice pack with the record-keeping around it. It is not a handwriting
curriculum, not a timed probe, and not a claim about any student's age or rate of progress.
The how-to page has a blank line for your district's own criterion.
