About this resource
I am thankful for… picture prompts and sentence frames for students who need a picture to start. Students pick a picture of something they are glad to have (a person, food, home, school, nature or a good feeling), glue it on a mat, circle it, trace the words, copy from a word bank or write their own sentence, then fill in a THANKFUL page, a thank you card and a board of their own. No history, no costume: just what a child is thankful for.
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 35 pages
- An I Am Thankful For picture poster: 6 groups of 4 pictures (people and pets, food, home, school, nature, good feelings), in color and black-and-white ink-saver
- A glue mat: 6 sentences, "I am thankful for ____", each with a box to glue a picture and a line to write the word
- 24 picture cards to cut, 3 across and 4 down on 2 pages (12 a page), cut on the dotted lines: my mom, my dad, my grandma, my pet; apples, bread, milk, pizza; my home, my bed, my toys, a warm shower; my school, my books, my crayons, my friends; the sun, trees, flowers, rainbows; feeling happy, feeling calm, hugs, love
- The same 24 cards in black-and-white ink-saver (2 pages)
- 12 blank picture cards: the student draws a picture and writes the word
- 6 thank you cards to cut, 2 across and 3 down: Thank you! To, Thank you for, From
- Circle It: 2 pages, 6 rows of 4 pictures (24 pictures); circle one, say it, write it
- Trace It: 5 sentences in hollow letters to trace, each with a line to write it again
- Word Bank: 12 pictured words and 4 sentences to write, each with a box to draw
- My Sentences: 3 frames, "I am thankful for ____ because ____", each with a drawing box and writing lines
- THANKFUL: 8 letters, a writing line for each and a picture hint (toys, hugs, apples, notebook, kitten, flowers, umbrella, lunch)
- My Thank You Note: a drawing box and lines for Dear, Thank you for and From
- My Thankful Board: 6 boxes, one for each group, to draw or glue in
- My Thankful Week: one thing a day for 5 days, with a drawing box and writing lines
- A how-to page and a picture bank page with the 24 cards by group and the THANKFUL hints, with space for your own words
- A Thankful Log (20 rows: date, page used, the student's words, on their own Y/N, initials)
- A weekly roll-up (8 weeks) with a percent graph
- A filled example: an invented student, one week on the log, three weeks on the roll-up and the pages used across all three
- A family page with 6 small picture cards to cut apart and a note home
- A hand-off page so a paraprofessional or another classroom uses the same pictures the same way
- A phrase bank: 23 lines in 6 groups (spoken lines for the poster, cards and worksheets; written starters for the log, the roll-up and the note home)
- A storage and binder label sheet: 12 labels and a spine strip
- Start Here, a contents page that maps every page, and a "what's next" back page
Three Levels
Circle It is the starting level (pick a picture). Trace It, Word Bank, the glue mat and My Thankful Week build (copy and write a word or a sentence). My Sentences, THANKFUL and the thank you note are for students ready to write more of their own. Each page carries a small shape for its level, not a number.
The Student Pages
Every student page has a "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture, big pictures and big rounded words, and room to circle, glue, draw or write. The pictures are everyday ones. The student in the filled example is invented.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the name lines, the writing lines, the log, the roll-up, the family page, the hand-off page and the blank cards, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document.
Who This Is For
Special education teachers, general education teachers, counselors and paraprofessionals who want a picture-supported way for kindergarten through grade 3 students to say and write what they are thankful for, in November or any other month, and the families who get the home page.
