About this resource
An I can display only works when children can read it. This is 45 pages of I can statements in kid words, each with a picture, for Reading, Writing, Math, Phonics and Behavior: a bulletin header, a header poster for each subject, cards to cut and hang, blank cards you write yourself, desk strips, and check-off pages children color in. Print what you need, or type into the pages first. No standards codes: you choose the targets that match your room.
WHAT IS INCLUDED (45 pages)
- 14 display pages: a bulletin header (I Can Statements, with all five subjects pictured), a header poster for each subject (Reading, Writing, Math, Phonics, Behavior), a Today We Can write-on poster and a blank subject header. The bulletin header and the subject headers come in color and in ink-saver.
- 40 I can statements, 8 for each subject, in simple kid words, each on its own picture card. Examples: I can read a book. I can write my name. I can add two numbers. I can say the vowel sounds. I can take turns.
- 96 pieces to cut, set edge to edge so each cut is one straight line: 80 picture cards (the 40 statements in color and in ink-saver, 8 per sheet), 8 blank write-on cards and 8 desk strips.
- Blank write-on cards: a picture box and three lines to type or write on. Slide one into a sheet protector and use a dry-erase marker to change it each week.
- 7 student pages: a check-off page for each subject (color the circle when you can), a type-in "My I Can List" and a reflection page (draw it, circle Not yet, Almost or I can, write what I learned).
- Teacher pages: how to set up the display (with a board diagram), 5 short teaching routines, a weekly planner, a class tracker, a filled example (an invented class), a family note, a phrase bank of 20 starters in 5 groups, and a binder cover with spine and 4 tabs.
- Terms of use and a thank-you page.
How To Use It
Hang the bulletin header, then a header poster for each subject you teach. Cut the cards for this week and hang them under their subject. Read today's card together, have a child show it, and let children color the circle on a check-off page when they can do it. When most of the class can, move the card to a Can Do side of the board and hang a new one. Use the blank cards for your own targets.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short direction with a picture, and room to color, draw or write. The pictures are friendly and clear. The header posters and the picture cards come in a color set and an ink-saver set, and everything reads in black and white too.
Type In, Or Print
The name lines, the Today We Can poster, the blank subject header, the blank write-on cards, the desk strips, the type-in list, the reflection page, the planner, the tracker, the family note and every notes area are type-in fields in any PDF reader. The posters and picture cards are print pages. You can also print any page and write by hand. Print at 100 percent with fit-to-page turned off. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
PreK to 3rd grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, and anyone who wants a learning-target wall that is picture-based, in plain words and easy to read.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
Classroom display pages and working paper. It is not a curriculum, a set of standards, a scope and sequence or a behavior plan, and it makes no health claims. The statements are suggestions in our own words; you choose which ones to hang, and the blank cards and the setup page leave room for your school's own words.
