About this resource
An interest inventory your students can check and write on, for grades 3 to 8. Each child checks picture choices for hobbies, favorite subjects and the ways they like to learn, finishes a few sentences, and draws something they like. Type the name in any PDF reader, print, and keep the finished pages in the child's folder.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (18 pages)
- Six child pages: About Me (favorite color, food, animal and place with a picture for each, plus one row of five faces for how school feels this year, and a space to tell your teacher something), Hobbies (12 picture choices to check, with a line for something else), Favorite Subjects (8 subjects, each rated Like it, It is okay or Not for me), How I Learn (8 picture choices, with a line for another way), My Ideas (6 sentences to finish, two lines each) and Draw Me (a large drawing space with lines to tell about the picture).
- A family version: the same 12 hobbies for a grown-up to check, with lines for what they have seen at home and a notes box.
- Teacher pages: Start Here, How to Give the Inventory (five steps and the words to read aloud), 13 sentence starters for talk and writing, an Interest Summary to file, a filled-in example for an invented student, and a note to family.
- An organizer set: a binder cover and spine, and five divider tabs to cut and tape (teacher prep).
- Terms of use, and a thank-you page with credits and a What's next card.
How To Edit
Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview or your browser. Click a line or a box and type your name, or type an X in a box. Save As to keep a clean copy for the next child. 148 type-in fields in all. This is a fillable PDF, not a slide deck, so there is nothing to unlock or ungroup.
Print Tips
Print on letter paper at 100 percent. The picture choices are sized to print large and still read when photocopied in black and white.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A set of pages a child checks and writes on. It is not a test, it does not score, sort or label a child, and it does not set a goal or a plan. The example child is invented and labeled that way on the page. Your school decides what happens with the answers.
Who This Is For
Teachers of grades 3 to 8 who want to learn what a child likes before a conference, a new group or a lesson plan, in general education, special education and resource classrooms.
