About this resource

One figure is doing something. Several figures are doing the same thing. Which small word goes in the blank, "is" or "are"? Twelve verbs, each with a ONE card (one figure, "One ____ running.") and a MANY card (three of the same figure, "Many ____ running."): 24 cut-apart cards in full color and again in ink-saver black and white. The file also has a sort mat and three student sheets a child can work on with a pencil, four probe forms that mark the ONE cards and the MANY cards apart, and a log, graph and caseload page. The file never decides what counts as a correct answer; that stays your own scoring rule.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

It is a fillable PDF: type into the log, graph, caseload page, family page and probe-form headers, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document, and it is not a norm-referenced or standardized test. It covers is and are only.

It carries no elicitation, cueing or modeling script. It does not decide what counts as a correct answer, a criterion, or a typical rate for using is and are -- every one of those is your own call, written once and reused every session. The ONE cards and the MANY cards are marked and tracked apart, because a child can get one right without the other.

Who This Is For

Speech-language pathologists, special education teachers and paraprofessionals with young or pre-reading students who are working on is and are with one figure and with more than one, and the families who get the practice page sent home.
