About this resource
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 22 pages, 262 type-in fields
- Six WH-questions about kitchen tools (fork and knife, kitchen knife, spoon, teapot, bowl, pot of food), each with its own three-picture answer strip to mark or circle — one question per tool, spread across two WH-Question Read-and-Match boards (three questions each)
- Both WH-question boards twice: a full-color set for classroom use and a black-and-white ink-saver set for the photocopier
- A Cut, Match and Answer board: a table listing all six questions with a blank to write or trace the tool word, six numbered answer slots, and the same six picture cards, cut apart, to place in the matching slot — in color and ink-saver sets
- 18 answer-picture instances across the WH-question boards (three choices per question, six questions) plus 6 cut-apart picture cards on the match board
- A Small-Group Comprehension Check: one roster table for up to 8 students across all six questions, plus a quick-reference table of every question's short cue and correct answer
- A weekly tracker: 6 questions down, Monday to Friday across, one letter per cell (correct no help / correct after reread / incorrect / not asked), a "correct" count per row, a week total, and a four-week snapshot table for tracking the percentage over time
- A binder organizer: a front cover, a spine strip and 9 divider tabs (3 of them blank)
- A home version: the same six questions at a smaller size for the kitchen table, with a note on reading the answers together and a seven-day "we did it" row
- A family update with a team hand-off block for the next adult who runs the check
- A phrase bank: 23 lines in 6 groups (spoken lines for asking the questions, written starters for the note afterward)
- A filled example — an invented student, one week, every count re-counted from its own row
- An answer key listing the full text of every question, its three picture choices and the correct answer, plus the full six-word list
- Start Here, a contents page with page thumbnails, and a "what's next" back page
A kitchen-tools comprehension pack built on one six-word bank (fork and knife, kitchen knife, spoon, teapot, bowl, pot of food) run through three different activities rather than one board repeated: quick multiple-choice WH-question boards, a hands-on cut-and-match board that also asks for the word in writing, and a small-group check sheet for running the same six questions with several students at once. A weekly tracker turns any of the three into a count a case manager can bring to a meeting.
The Six Questions
Every kitchen tool word is the correct answer to exactly one question, and every answer strip's two distractors were chosen so no other picture in that specific strip could also defend the answer:
1. What do you use to eat spaghetti at the table? — fork and knife
2. Which one do you use to cut up vegetables before cooking? — kitchen knife
3. What do you use to stir soup in a pot? — spoon
4. Which one pours hot tea into a cup? — teapot
5. What do you put your cereal in? — bowl
6. Which one do you cook soup in on the stove? — pot of food
Every picture was chosen to be named in one word by a young child, in color AND in the black-and-white set — the same six-word bank already checked and shipped in the Kitchen Tools Matching Binder, imported here rather than retyped so the two files describe the same objects identically.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the tracker, the check sheet, the organizer, the home page and the family update, or print and use a pen. The WH-question boards need nothing but a pen or a typed field; the cut, match and answer board needs scissors for its six picture cards. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document, and it is not a standardized test.
It carries no prompt hierarchy, fading schedule or mastery rule, and it does not say what comprehension level any student is working at. Every question is a picture-supported comprehension check on paper; it makes no claim about which kitchen tasks any student is ready to do with a real knife or a hot pot. The tracker counts which questions were answered correctly and with how much help, and nothing else — what a count means for a student is your team's call.
Who This Is For
Special education teachers, speech-language pathologists and paraprofessionals running receptive-language or reading-comprehension practice with early, pre-reading or low-verbal students, case managers who need that practice to show up as data, and the families who get the home page.
More In The Collection
This pack is part of the Morning Work & Adapted Books Collection; more matching binders and comprehension packs are being added to the collection regularly. It pairs naturally with the Kitchen Tools Matching Binder (request-and-match, same six words) already in the store.
