About this resource
A picture card for every multisyllabic word on the probe, with the word already broken into its syllables and a row of dots to count — so the same card that asks a child to name the picture also doubles as a syllable-counting tool for word-level phonological work.
WHAT IS INCLUDED — 20 pages, 377 type-in fields
Picture Cards
- 12 multisyllabic word picture cards in full color, large, each with the word hyphenated into syllables ("but-ter-fly") and a row of dots matching the syllable count — four words at 2 syllables, four at 3, four at 4: pretzel, penguin, turtle, pizza, butterfly, elephant, banana, tomato, helicopter, avocado, motorcycle, accordion
- The same 12 cards again as an ink-saver set in pure black outlines, for the photocopier
- A note printed on both card pages naming the 1 picture (tomato) a young child may name another way (apple) — and flagging that its alternate name does NOT carry the same syllable count, so a mismatch is scored as a naming miss, never a syllable-count error
Probe And Track
- 3 quick naming probe forms (A, B, C), 6 pictures each, untimed: a clean page of pictures only to show the child, and a separate scoring page behind it (word labels, correct / error / approximation marks, a score field); Forms A and B split the 12 words with no overlap, Form C re-mixes 6 of them in a new order
- Full-Deck Probe — all 12 words on one sheet, scored on TWO independent measures: naming (said the target word) and syllable count (claps or taps matched the dot row), with a verbatim column for what was actually said or clapped
- Data Log — 17 rows: date, form, correct, out of, percent, notes, for whichever skill (naming or syllable count) this copy tracks
- Percent Graph — 14 probes across, 0–100 percent grid, a field for the team's own criterion
- Caseload Summary — 16 rows: student, skill, baseline, current, trend, decision
Share And Write
- Practice at Home — a family update built from six of the same pictures used in session plus a "name it, then clap the parts" activity, a weekly practice table, and lines for the longer words a family heard outside of practice time
- Phrase Bank — 17 observable-language starters across 5 groups (naming accuracy, syllable-counting accuracy, carryover, the log and graph, the caseload page)
- Filled Example — an invented student, eight full-deck probes tracking syllable-count accuracy, every percent re-counted from its own row
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the log, graph, caseload page, family page, and probe-form headers, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document, and it is not a norm-referenced or standardized test.
It carries no elicitation, cueing or modeling script. It does not decide what counts as a correct production, a correct syllable count, a criterion, or a typical rate for multisyllabic word production — every one of those is this clinician's own call, written once and reused every session. Pictures replace the printed word list a child cannot yet read; they do not replace the clinician's scoring rule.
Who This Is For
Speech-language pathologists and special education teams with young or pre-reading students on a multisyllabic-word production or phonological-awareness (syllable counting) goal, and the families who get the practice page sent home.
