About this resource
A noise level chart only works when children can see the level, hear what it sounds like and check their own voice. This is 33 pages: a five-level Noise Level Chart, one poster for each level, a pointer chart with arrows to cut, Voice Check signs and activity cards, desk cards, a blank level sign, student self-check pages, and the teacher pages to run it. Print what you need, or type into the pages first.
WHAT IS INCLUDED (33 pages)
- 12 chart and poster pages: the Noise Level Chart (all 5 levels on one page) and one full-page poster for each level, each in color and in ink-saver. Every level has a number, a picture, a label and one line in kid words.
- The 5 levels: 0 Silent, 1 Whisper, 2 Group Voice, 3 Classroom Voice, 4 Outside Voice. Each level poster also shows one or two activities where you might use it.
- 1 pointer chart: a half-circle gauge numbered 0 to 4, with the five levels pictured under it and type-in lines for "Right now we are at level" and a drawing box.
- 42 pieces to cut, set edge to edge so each cut is one straight line: 6 pointer arrows with a name line (pin one in the middle of the gauge), 12 Voice Check signs (the 5 levels plus a write-on sign, in color and in ink-saver), 16 activity sign cards (7 activities plus a write-on card, in color and in ink-saver) and 8 desk cards (one for each level plus 3 write-on cards).
- The 7 activity cards are Silent Reading, Partner Work, Group Work, Lunch, Class Talk, Presenting and Recess, each with a suggested level you can change.
- 1 blank level sign to type into: a level number, a name, a picture box and lines for what it sounds like and where you use it.
- 2 self-check pages for children: a circle level (circle the level you used, draw where you were) and a write level (what I was working on, circle the level, did my voice match, next time I can).
- Teacher pages: how to set up the chart (with a plan table for your own activities), how to teach it in 5 short routines, a class tally for noise checks, a filled example (an invented class and an invented child), a home note, a phrase bank of 20 starters in 5 groups, and a binder cover with spine and 4 tabs.
- Terms of use and a thank-you page.
How To Use It
Hang the chart where everyone can see it and pin an arrow on the pointer chart. Teach one level a day: read the poster, make the sound, ask "Who can hear me?" Before each activity, do a Voice Check: point to its sign or move the pointer and ask "What level is this?" Children check their own voice on a self-check page or hold up a desk card. You count on the tally, and the home note tells families which level you are practicing.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short direction with a picture, and room to circle, draw or write. Pictures are friendly and simple. The chart, level posters, signs and activity cards come in a color set and an ink-saver set, and everything reads in black and white too.
Type In, Or Print
The name lines, the blank level sign, the write-on signs and cards, the arrow name lines, the self-check lines, the class tally, the home note and every notes area are type-in fields in any PDF reader. The posters are print pages. You can also print any page and write by hand. Print at 100 percent with fit-to-page turned off. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
PreK to 5th grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, and anyone who wants a voice level chart that is positive, picture-based and easy to read.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
Classroom posters and working paper. It is not a curriculum, a therapy program or a behavior plan, and it makes no health claims. A level is a voice for a job, not a reward or a consequence. Your school decides its own rules and next steps; the setup page gives you a blank to write them in your school's words.
