About this resource

A noun is the name of a person, a place, a thing or an animal. This pack teaches that one idea three ways, easiest to hardest: cut words and glue them under Person, Place, Thing or Animal; circle the one noun among three words in a sentence; and fill in the blank with the noun from a word box that fits (two words in the box fit nothing). A helper page in kid words starts it off, and a last page has the child write a sentence and draw a picture for each kind of noun.

EVERYTHING INSIDE (28 pages)

THE FIVE PAGE TYPES (dots show the level, never color)

1. Noun Helper (1 dot) — four cards (a person, a place, a thing, an animal) and four sentences with the nouns underlined.

2. Sort It (1 dot, 3 pages) — cut twelve words a page (three of each group) and glue each under Person, Place, Thing or Animal.

3. Circle It (2 dots, 3 pages) — a sentence and three word buttons: an action word, a describing word and one noun. The child circles the noun.

4. Fill in the Blank (2 dots, 3 pages) — a word box of eight nouns and six sentences. One noun fits each sentence, two words in the box are left over, and the child writes the noun on primary lines.

5. Write Your Own (3 dots, 1 page) — a person, a place, a thing and an animal to draw, with a sentence line for each.

Circle It and Fill in the Blank come in three sets of six sentences (A, B, C), and Sort It in three sets of twelve words, so a child never meets the same one twice.

Built For The Child Holding The Page

A big "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture, large rounded letters, and writing boxes on primary lines at least 0.56 inch tall. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult. Cutting is limited to the three Sort It pages: twelve pieces a page, touching edge to edge, each at least 1.1 inch on every side.

Type In, Or Print

The name and date lines, the tracker, the class grid, the team note, the home page and the rules-page note box are type-in fields in any PDF reader (133 fields in all). The words a student writes in the boxes are pencil work. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.

Who This Is For

First through third grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, and any teacher working with an older student who still needs to sort and spot nouns. The home page sends the same job to a family; the team note hands off what changed since the last meeting.
