About this resource
Print a number bond mat once and use it all year. Slide it into a sheet protector, write the whole and the two parts with a dry-erase marker, fill the frame with counters, wipe it clean and do it again. This is a 36-page Number Bond Mat set: bond mats to 5, to 10 and to 20 with a ten-frame for counters, a big bond mat with a number sentence, a part-part-whole mat, desk cards and two-color counters to cut, student pages and the teacher pages to run it. Print what you need, or type into the pages first.
WHAT IS INCLUDED (36 pages)
- 9 mat pages: a bond mat to 5 (a five-frame), to 10 (a ten-frame) and to 20 (two ten-frames), a big bond mat with a number sentence line and a drawing box, and a part-part-whole mat with a Whole box and two Part boxes. 4 of them come again in ink-saver (black and white).
- 64 pieces to cut on 5 cut sheets, set edge to edge so each cut is one straight line: 24 desk cards (3 sheets of 8: wholes 3 to 10, wholes 12 to 20, and wholes 3 to 10 in ink-saver) and 40 counters (2 sheets of 20, red and yellow, one in color and one in ink-saver).
- 2 reference pages: ways to make 5 (6 ways) and ways to make 10 (11 ways), each shown on a frame and as a number sentence.
- 8 student pages, each with a big "My name" line, one short direction and room to work: missing part to 5, missing part to 10, missing number with no frame, missing part to 20, find the whole, read the frame and write the bond, color the frame to match the circles, and many ways to make a number. Three levels are marked with small shapes, not numbers.
- A filled mat example (page 5): a bond mat to 10 with 6 and 4 written in, red and yellow counters in the frame and the number sentence 6 + 4 = 10.
- Teacher pages: Start Here with a which-page-when table, five short routines, a filled example (an invented child and every answer invented), a key, a class tracker, a note home, a phrase bank of 20 starters in 5 groups, and a binder cover with spine and 4 tabs.
- Terms of use and a thank-you page.
How To Use It
Pick a mat and print it once on cardstock or copy paper. Say a whole; children write it in the top circle and put that many counters in the frame. They slide counters into two parts, write each part and read it: "___ and ___ make ___." Hand out a desk card with the whole printed and have children find the parts, then move to the missing-part pages. The key checks the answers, and the tracker is a place to write what you saw.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
Every mat and student page has a big "My name" line, one short direction with a picture, and big circles and frames. The circles and counters are flat shapes: one red part, one yellow part, one teal whole, so the colors on the mat match the colors of the counters. Every page reads in black and white too.
Type In, Or Print
The name lines, the circles on the mats and student pages, the number sentences, the tracker, the note home and every notes area are type-in fields in any PDF reader. You can also print any page and write by hand. Print at 100 percent with fit-to-page turned off. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten to 3rd grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, math centers and intervention groups, and anyone who wants a number bond mat children can see, touch and check for themselves.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
Classroom mats and working paper for number bonds and ten-frames. It is not a full math curriculum, an assessment or a therapy program, and it makes no health claims. Your school decides what a child should be able to do and when; the pages give you a blank to write your own notes.
