About this resource
Read, trace, write and spell the number words one to twenty. Pages a child can pick up and start: read the word beside its ten-frame, trace it, write it, match it to its number, fill in the missing letters, spot the misspelled word, or cut and glue. Every page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction, and rows made for a child's handwriting. Untimed: no clock, no score on the page.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (43 pages: 28 student pages, 15 for you)
- 115 practice items, every one read from a single table of the twenty number words (20 traced, 20 written after a dotted copy, 20 written from the numeral alone, 16 matched, 14 with missing letters, 18 cut and glued, 7 fixed)
- Number Word Chart: every number from 1 to 20 with a numeral, a ten-frame and its word, big (2 pages)
- Trace the Word: three words a page, the numeral and a ten-frame beside each, the word big and dotted on two ruled rows, with one start dot on the first letter (7 pages)
- Write the Word: the numeral and a ten-frame, a dotted copy to trace, then an empty row to write it, three words a page (7 pages)
- Write It Alone: the numeral only and an empty ruled row; all twenty numbers once (3 pages: 7, 7 and 6 rows)
- Match: draw a line from a ten-frame to its word, then from a numeral to its word (8 items a page, 2 pages)
- Missing Letters: one letter missing with a word box, then two letters missing with no word box; the first letter is always printed and only one number word fits the letters showing (7 words a page, 2 pages)
- Cut and Glue: six pieces a page, 3 by 2, three straight cuts; numbers to words on two pages (the first has a faint word in each glue box) and words to numbers on the third (18 pieces, 3 pages)
- Fix It: a printed word that is right on 2 of 7 rows and wrong on 5; circle yes or no and write it right; the first page has a word box (7 rows, 2 pages)
- 2 answer keys (56 rows and 39 rows), a tracker (26 rows), a class grid, a team note, a home page with three numbers to write, a filled example (an invented student), a phrase bank (18 starters), a binder cover and 6 divider tabs with a spine label
- Start Here, a how-it-works page and a "What's next" back page
Built For The Child, Not The Office
Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture (a pencil, a book, a circle or scissors), and plenty of room. Every writing row is at least half an inch from the top line to the bottom line, like primary writing paper, and the Trace the Word and Write the Word rows are bigger still (the dotted words are about two-fifths of an inch tall in the middle band), so those pages hold three words a page, not more. The letter boxes on Missing Letters are two-thirds of an inch tall. Everything for you (directions, answer keys, tracking) is on separate teacher pages.
Three Levels, Marked By Dots
Every Word Comes From One Table
The twenty number words are computed once, checked against a written-out spelling and against a dictionary, and every numeral and word pair on every page, every answer key row and every cut piece is read from that table. There is no second, hand-typed key. On Fix It every wrong spelling is generated and checked so it is not a number word and not a real word, and every page of pieces is arranged so the piece for a box is never straight under it.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, the letter boxes on Missing Letters, the tracker, class grid, team note and home page are type-in fields in any PDF reader; the tracing and writing rows, ten-frames and cut pieces are printed for a pencil. Every page also prints clean in black and white. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides, Google Docs or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten and first grade teachers, special education and resource room teachers, interventionists, and anyone who needs number-word reading and spelling practice at more than one level in one file, with the tracking and family pages already made.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
An untimed practice set for reading and spelling the number words one to twenty, with the record-keeping around it. It is not a timed fluency probe or a goal page, not a full math or spelling curriculum, and not a claim about any student's age, grade level or rate of progress. It covers the words one through twenty only; zero and the tens after twenty are not in this file.
