About this resource
Every child loves a nursery rhyme — turning that into reading practice a teacher can track takes
more than a poster. This is a complete kit for eight classic rhymes: three different ways to
practice each one, a tracker, a class grid, a family note and a shared-reading starter, so nothing
has to be written from scratch.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (36 pages)
- 18 student pages in 3 formats: 2 Match the Rhyme pages (write the letter, a clue sentence to a
rhyme), 8 Fill in the Blank pages (one a rhyme, a word bank with 2 decoy words), and 8 Circle the
Rhyme pages (one a rhyme, find and circle a word that rhymes)
- 16 invented clue sentences, 18 cloze blanks and 13 rhyme-find items across the eight verses,
checked against the file's own data
- 3 answer keys, generated from the same rhyme data as the student pages
- 1 tracker (by rhyme, across all three formats) and 1 whole-class progress grid
- 1 family note (a ready-to-send update) and 1 shared-reading starter (a different setting — whole
class, not individual seatwork)
- 1 filled example (an invented student), 1 phrase bank (15 observable-language starters), 1 binder
cover, and 8 divider tabs with a spine label to cut out
- Start Here, a how-to-read-a-page page, a contents page that gives every page number, and a Meet
the Eight Rhymes reference page with the start of every verse
The Three Formats, Easiest To Hardest
1. Match the Rhyme (starting) — a one-sentence clue on a page; write the letter (a–h) of the rhyme
it describes. Two full sets (A, B), so all eight rhymes appear on both pages in a different order.
2. Fill in the Blank (building) — the full verse printed with 1–3 words blanked out and a word bank
below it. Every bank carries the correct words plus two decoy words that never appear anywhere in
that rhyme's own verse, so the answer can't be found by elimination alone. Every Fill in the Blank
page also carries a short comprehension question, a reread-three-times tracker, and a "make it
silly" writing extension.
3. Circle the Rhyme (ready for more) — the full verse printed again; find and circle the word that
rhymes with a named word, then write it on the line. Every answer is already on the page, so there
is no list of wrong choices to eliminate.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
A big "My name" line, one short instruction, large rounded letters, real room to write or circle,
and dots (not words) to show which level a page is. Nothing on a student page is written for an
adult.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, the tracker, the class grid, the family note and the shared-reading starter
are type-in fields in any PDF reader. The letters and words a student writes are pencil work. This
is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten, first and second grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, and any teacher
running an early-literacy or shared-reading routine. The shared-reading starter sends the same eight
rhymes to a whole-class setting; the family note sends them home.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A classic-nursery-rhyme reading practice set with the record-keeping around it. It is not a reading
assessment, a screener, or a clinical tool, and it makes no claim about any student's age or rate of
progress. There is no IEP goal language or eligibility wording anywhere in the file.
