About this resource
Ordering numbers, three to five at a time. Put the numbers in order smallest first or biggest first, find the number that is missing, read a dot on a number line, and cut and glue strips in order. Every page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction, and answer boxes made for a child's handwriting. Untimed: no clock, no score on the page.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (31 pages: 16 student pages, 15 for you)
- How to Order Numbers: a worked example with a number line, smallest first and biggest first, then a "your turn" (1 page)
- Order to 20: rows of 3, 4 and 5 numbers, smallest first (12 rows, 3 pages)
- Order to 50: rows of 3 numbers, then rows of 4 where two numbers share the tens digit (8 rows, 2 pages)
- Order to 100: the same two steps, to 100 (8 rows, 2 pages)
- Biggest to Smallest: 3 numbers to 20, then 4 numbers to 100 (8 rows, 2 pages)
- What Is Missing?: a strip of 5 counting numbers with 1 blank, then 2 blanks (9 strips, 2 pages)
- Dot on the Line: read a dot on a 0 to 20 line and on a 0 to 100 line (8 dots, 2 pages)
- Cut and Glue: 2 strips of 5 pieces on each page, 10 pieces edge to edge in 5 columns and 2 rows, 4 strips in all (20 pieces, 2 pages)
- 57 things to do in all, every set different, all computed in code
- 2 answer keys, 1 tracker, 1 class grid, 1 team note, 1 home page with a number line, 1 filled example (an invented student), a phrase and strategy bank (17 starters), a binder cover and 6 divider tabs with a spine label
- Start Here, a how-it-works page and a "What's next" back page
Built For The Child, Not The Office
Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture icon, big numerals in a rounded font, and answer boxes at least half an inch tall. Everything for you (directions, answer keys, scoring) is on separate teacher pages. The cutting pages have 10 pieces, each 1.4 by 1.5 inches, with no gaps, so it takes five straight cuts.
Three Levels, Marked By Dots
One dot: starting (3 numbers, or numbers far apart). Two dots: building. Three dots: ready for more (5 numbers in a row, bigger numbers, two numbers that start with the same digit, or a number line with fewer numerals). The dots are the only level code, so children at one table are not comparing papers.
Every Set Is Computed
Every printed row of numbers, every answer and every key row is read from the same set. No set repeats anywhere in the file, the printed order is never already smallest-first or biggest-first, and the place of the first answer changes from row to row, so there is no pattern to guess.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, every answer box, the tracker, class grid, team note and home page are type-in fields in any PDF reader; the numbers, number lines and cut pieces are always printed. Every page also prints clean in black and white. This is a fillable PDF, not a slideshow or a word-processor file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten through 2nd grade teachers, special education and resource room teachers, interventionists, and anyone teaching a child which number comes first, with the tracking and family pages already made.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
An untimed ordering-numbers practice set with the record-keeping around it. It is not a timed fluency probe or a goal page, not a full math curriculum, and not a claim about any student's age, grade level or rate of progress.
