About this resource
A picture card for every verb on the probe, so a child who cannot yet read "walk / walked" as text still has something to point at. Every verb gets exactly two cards with the same action picture: a TODAY card and a YESTERDAY card, told apart by a small drawn calendar in the corner (a dot for today, a check for yesterday, with the word printed beside it). Six of the verbs have a yesterday word ending in "-ed"; six have a different yesterday word (run / ran, swim / swam). Today and yesterday are always scored separately, never averaged into one number.
WHAT IS INCLUDED — 19 pages, 397 type-in fields
Picture Cards
- 12 verbs in full color as 24 cut pieces: each verb is a separate TODAY card and YESTERDAY card, side by side, edge to edge in a 6-across, 4-row grid so it cuts with one straight cut per row and one down the middle of each pair. Rows 1-2: walk, climb, clap, dance, hug, ski (yesterday word ends in "-ed"). Rows 3-4: run, swim, sleep, write, ride, sit (yesterday word is a different word: ran, swam, slept, wrote, rode, sat). Big picture, word in large type
- The same 24 pieces again as an ink-saver set in pure black outlines, for the photocopier
- An adult box under the cards (not on the cards, so nothing extra is cut) listing the 4 pictures a child may name another way (sleep "bed," write "pencil or pen," ride "bike," sit "yoga or criss-cross") and noting that every picture shows the action underway, so a child may say the "-ing" word; you decide once, in your own scoring rule, what counts
Probe And Track
- 3 quick picture probe forms (A, B, C), 4 verbs each (8 pictures) — every form carries two "-ed" verbs and two others — untimed, today and yesterday each marked correct / error / approximation separately; Forms A, B and C together are the whole 12-verb bank with no overlap
- Full-Deck Probe — all 12 verbs on one sheet, scored at today level and yesterday level, with a verbatim column for what was actually said
- Data Log — 17 rows: date, form, correct, out of, percent, notes
- Percent Graph — 14 probes across, 0-100 percent grid, a field for the team's own goal line
- Caseload Summary — 16 rows: student, level, baseline, current, trend, decision
Share And Write
- Practice at Home — a family update built from five of the same verb pairs used in session (walk, clap, run, sleep, ride), a weekly practice table, and lines for the times a family heard about something already done outside of practice time
- Phrase Bank — 18 observable-language starters across 5 groups (accuracy, what was said, carryover, the log and graph, the caseload page)
- Filled Example — an invented student, eight probes, every percent re-counted from its own row
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the log, graph, caseload page, family page, and probe-form headers, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document, and it is not a norm-referenced or standardized test.
It carries no elicitation, cueing or modeling script. It does not decide what counts as a correct today or yesterday word, a goal line, or a typical rate for past tense — every one of those is this clinician's own call, written once and reused every session. Pictures replace the printed word list a child cannot yet read; they do not replace the clinician's scoring rule.
Who This Is For
Speech-language pathologists and special education teams with young or pre-reading students on a past tense, morphosyntax, or expressive language goal, and the families who get the practice page sent home.
