About this resource
A picture card for every verb on the probe, printed with its full present progressive target underneath — "is running," "is cooking," "are hugging" — not just the bare action word. This is a different target from a naming deck: a child who says "run" or "running" alone for the running picture has named the action but has not yet produced this card's target, and that is what every page here scores — whether the auxiliary ("is" or "are") and the "-ing" ending were both produced, not only whether the action was identified.
WHAT IS INCLUDED — 19 pages, 326 type-in fields
Picture Cards
- 15 verbs in full color as 15 cut pieces (5 across, 3 rows), each printed with its own picture and its full target phrase: run "is running," walk "is walking," swim "is swimming," dance "is dancing," climb "is climbing," sleep "is sleeping," cook "is cooking," clap "is clapping," hug "are hugging," ski "is skiing," sing "is singing," write "is writing," ride "is riding," sit "is sitting," wave "is waving." Big picture, target phrase in large type
- The same 15 pieces again as an ink-saver set in pure black outlines, for the photocopier
- An adult box under the cards (not on the cards, so nothing extra is cut) naming the one plural, "are" card (hug — the only picture with two figures) and the 7 pictures a child may name another way (sleep "bed," cook "chef," sing "microphone," write "pencil or pen," ride "bike," sit "yoga or criss-cross," wave "hi or bye")
Probe And Track
- 3 quick picture probe forms (A, B, C), 5 verbs each — an exact, non-overlapping split of the 15-verb bank — untimed, each picture marked correct / error / approximation, where approximation means the verb was named but the auxiliary and/or the "-ing" ending was missing or wrong
- Full-Deck Probe — all 15 verbs on one sheet, each with its printed target, one mark per picture, and a verbatim column for what was actually said
- Data Log — 17 rows: date, form, correct, out of, percent, notes
- Percent Graph — 14 probes across, 0-100 percent grid, a field for the team's own goal line
- Caseload Summary — 16 rows: student, baseline, current, trend, decision
Share And Write
- Practice at Home — a family update built from five of the same verbs used in session (including the one "are" card), a weekly practice table, and lines for the whole sentences a family heard outside of practice time
- Phrase Bank — 18 observable-language starters across 5 groups (accuracy, what was said, carryover, the log and graph, the caseload page)
- Filled Example — an invented student, eight probes, every percent re-counted from its own row
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the log, graph, caseload page, family page, and probe-form headers, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document, and it is not a norm-referenced or standardized test.
It carries no elicitation, cueing or modeling script. It does not decide what counts as a correctly produced target, a goal line, or a typical rate for present progressive — every one of those is this clinician's own call, written once and reused every session. Pictures replace the printed word list a child cannot yet read; they do not replace the clinician's scoring rule, and this file does not state a grammar rule for choosing "is" over "are" — each card simply prints the phrase that matches its own picture.
How This Is Different From Action Verb Naming And Past Tense Verb Picture Cards
This store's Action Verb Naming Picture Cards scores the bare verb only ("run"). This deck reuses the same verified verb pictures (minus one, see Verified below) but scores the full "is/are + verb-ing" phrase instead — a sentence-production target, not a naming target. It is also not the Past Tense product: there are no paired today/yesterday cards and no drawn calendar marker here, because the picture itself does not change between forms the way it does for past tense — only the target phrase printed under it does. Each of the three products is a separate skill and a separate file.
Who This Is For
Speech-language pathologists and special education teams with young or pre-reading students on a present progressive, morphosyntax, or expressive language goal, and the families who get the practice page sent home.
