About this resource
The same object, drawn once, three times, or eight times — so a child who cannot yet count out loud can still point to one, a few, or many. Every card asks one question, “How many?”, with the three answer choices printed right on the card for a child to point to directly: One, A Few, Many.
WHAT IS INCLUDED — 19 pages, 314 type-in fields
Picture Cards
- 12 scene cards in full color, each a cut-apart card of about 1.75 x 2.3 inches, with “How many?” and the three printed answer choices underneath. They sit edge to edge on one page, so 5 straight cuts free the whole deck. Four objects — box, ball, bucket, tree — each drawn as ONE (a single large copy), A FEW (three copies in a loose cluster) and MANY (eight copies on a small grid): 4 objects x 3 quantities = 12 scenes, no scene repeated
- The same 12 scenes again as an ink-saver set in pure black outlines, for the photocopier
- A note printed on both card pages naming the 2 objects a young child may name another way (ball, “soccer ball”; bucket, “pail”) so the scoring rule is decided once, before the first probe, plus a plain note that A Few is always three copies and Many is always eight on this deck — not a general rule for real-world amounts
Probe And Track
- 3 quick picture probe forms (A, B, C), 4 scenes each, untimed — forms A, B and C together are the whole 12-scene bank with no scene repeated on more than one form (a form is not guaranteed one scene per object; one may carry two scenes of the same object)
- Full-Deck Probe — all 12 scenes on one sheet, one row each, with the target quantity printed next to a verbatim column for what was actually said
- Data Log — 16 rows: date, form, correct, out of, percent, notes
- Percent Graph — 14 probes across, 0–100 percent grid, a field for the team's own criterion
- Caseload Summary — 16 rows: student, baseline, current, trend, quantities still missed, decision
Share And Write
- Practice at Home — a family update built from four of the same scenes used in session (one per object), a weekly practice table, and lines for quantity words a family heard outside of practice time
- Phrase Bank — 20 observable-language starters across 6 groups (accuracy, what was said, carryover, the log and graph, the caseload page, and comparing a few vs. many specifically)
- Filled Example — an invented student, eight probes, every percent re-counted from its own row
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the log, graph, caseload page, family page, and probe-form headers, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document, and it is not a norm-referenced or standardized test.
It carries no elicitation, cueing or modeling script. It does not decide what counts as a correct quantity word, a criterion, or a typical rate for quantity concepts — every one of those is this clinician's own call, written once and reused every session. Pictures replace the objects a clinician would otherwise have to arrange by hand; they do not replace the clinician's scoring rule.
Who This Is For
Speech-language pathologists and special education teams with young or pre-reading students on a quantity-concepts, early math language, or receptive/expressive language goal, and the families who get the practice page sent home. Pairs naturally with the Positional Concepts decks for a caseload working on early concept vocabulary.
