About this resource

A reading log to send home that a parent can actually sign, in the shape that fits the family: a detailed weekly log with the book and the minutes, a quick weekly log for one line a night, and a monthly overview for a single weekly signature. Add a class roster, a before- and after-school program version for staff who are not the parent, a roll-up graph, a bank of comment starters, family reading tips, a binder cover with divider tabs, and a filled-in example, all as one fillable PDF.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

It is a fillable PDF. Open it in a PDF reader, click a line, a box or a cell, type, press Tab to move on, and Save As once per student or per week. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT a Google Sheets file, a Google Doc or an Excel workbook, and it does not total the minutes or draw the graph.

It is not a reading-level assessment and it does not set a number of required minutes; the team or the district sets that number, and there is a blank line for it. It does not measure or report a reading level, and the comment starters are observable-language sentence starters, not a finished judgment about a student.

Who This Is For

Special education case managers and classroom teachers sending a reading log home, the paraprofessionals and before- or after-school program staff who log reading when a parent is not the one doing it, and general education teachers who want the same log used the same way across a caseload.
