About this resource
Rounding to the nearest 10 AND the nearest 100, in one book. Find the dot on a number line, circle the closer number, write the rounded number, round the same number both ways, solve short story problems, and cut and glue numbers under "Rounds down" or "Rounds up". The 5-or-more rule is on every page type. Every page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction, and answer boxes made for a child's handwriting. Untimed: no clock, no score on the page.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (33 pages: 17 student pages, 16 for you)
- The Rounding Rule: look at the digit, 0 to 4 stays, 5 to 9 goes up, with four worked number lines (1 page)
- Which Ten?: a dot on a line between two tens, numbers 11 to 99 (15 items, 3 pages)
- Which Hundred?: the same line between two hundreds, numbers 101 to 999 (15 items, 3 pages)
- Circle It: two numbers to choose from, no line (12 items, 2 pages)
- Round It: check the digit, write the nearest ten, then the nearest hundred (12 items, 2 pages)
- Tens or Hundreds?: three numbers, each rounded both ways (6 items, 1 page)
- Story Problems: four invented stories with a "My work" box on each (4 items, 1 page)
- Down or Up?: cut and glue numbers under Rounds down or Rounds up (26 pieces, 3 pages; the last set mixes tens and hundreds)
- Cut and Glue: cut the answers, glue each next to its number (12 pieces, 2 pages)
- 102 rounding items in all, every answer computed in code
- 2 answer keys, 1 tracker, 1 class grid, 1 team note, 1 home page with a 0 to 100 line, 1 filled example (an invented student), a phrase and talk bank (17 starters), a binder cover and 6 divider tabs with a spine label
- Start Here, a how-it-works page and a "What's next" back page
Built For The Child, Not The Office
Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture icon, big numerals in a rounded font, and answer boxes at least half an inch tall. Everything for you (directions, answer keys, scoring) is on separate teacher pages. The cutting pages have 8, 10 or 6 pieces, edge to edge with no gaps, so a page takes 3 to 5 straight cuts.
Three Levels, Marked By Dots
One dot: starting (numbers far from halfway). Two dots: building (closer calls, hundreds). Three dots: ready for more (halfway numbers, no line, tens and hundreds mixed). The dots are the only level code, so children at one table are not comparing papers.
Every Set Is Computed
Every number, every answer and every key row is read from the same lists and rounded by one rule in code. No number repeats anywhere in the file, the printed order is never in answer order, and the answer's place changes from item to item, so there is no pattern to guess.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, every answer box, the tracker, class grid, team note and home page are type-in fields in any PDF reader; the numbers, number lines, bubbles and cut pieces are always printed. Every page also prints clean in black and white. This is a fillable PDF, not a slideshow or a word-processor file.
Who This Is For
2nd and 3rd grade teachers, special education and resource room teachers, interventionists, and anyone teaching a child to round, with the tracking and family pages already made.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
An untimed rounding practice set with the record-keeping around it. It is not a timed fluency probe or a goal page, not a full math curriculum, and not a claim about any student's age, grade level or rate of progress. A number exactly halfway rounds up in this book; the rule page has a line to write your own class rule.
