About this resource
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 21 pages
- 10 action cards, 2 inches square, in two groups: Safe Actions (handshake, hug, clapping, thumbs up, walking, cheering) and Actions That Hurt (hitting, pinching, pushing, kicking) — split five and five across two ring sheets so a buyer can print one sheet or both
- Every card twice: a full-color set for the ring and a black-and-white ink-saver set for a spare ring or a second adult
- An "at a glance" reference table on every ring sheet naming each card's real group and what the picture shows
- 10 blank ring cards with a type-in word line, for any action the printed set does not cover
- A how-to page: building the ring (cut, punch, thread), showing a card and asking the group, picking what travels on it, what every card shows and does not show, writing down what changes, one ring for several adults, sending it home and handing it off
- A Safe Hands Ring Log (16 rows: date, setting, card shown, named correctly, notes)
- A weekly roll-up (8 weeks) with a percent-correct graph
- A filled example — an invented student, one school day and three weeks on the roll-up, every number re-counted from its own row
- A family page with five home action cards and a week of home tries to initial
- A hand-off page so a paraprofessional, general education teacher or substitute carries the same ring the same way
- A phrase bank: 22 lines in 6 groups (spoken words for showing a card, written starters for the log, the roll-up and the note home)
- A storage and binder label sheet: 11 labels and a spine strip
- Start Here, a contents page with page thumbnails, and a "what's next" back page
The collection's own Safe Body and Safe Hands Sort Cards and Lesson is a two-column sort board at three built-in levels: it stays on the desk or table it is set up on. This file carries the same ten action cards a different way — cut to a small card, punched near the top edge and threaded onto a one-inch book ring, so an adult can hold up a card and ask the same "which group?" question in the hallway, the cafeteria, specials, a fire-drill line, or anywhere a posted sort board is not within reach.
The Cards
- Safe Actions (6) — handshake, hug, clapping, thumbs up, walking, cheering
- Actions That Hurt (4) — hitting, pinching, pushing, kicking
Every picture and word is the same one that flat sort-board set already uses, so a buyer who owns both sees the same card mean the same thing in both places. No card pictures an outcome or a second person — every "Actions That Hurt" card shows the action alone (a hand, a fist, a foot). Cards are 2 inches square; a hole punched near the top edge, inside the dashed cut line, keeps the picture and the word clear of the ring.
The Ring Sheets
- Ring Sheet, Set 1 and Set 2 — five action cards each, cut apart and punched, color or ink-saver
No board at all and no sort mat at all: every card prints at the same 2-inch size, so a card from either sheet sits on the ring next to a card from the other without a size mismatch.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the log, the roll-up, the family page, the hand-off page and the blank cards, or print and use a pen. The card sheets print on cardstock or plain paper, cut along dashed lines, and punch near the top edge for a one-inch book ring (sold separately). It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document.
It is a way for an adult to carry the same safe-or-hurts picture cards a sort board already uses, hold one up, and write down whether the group was named correctly. It is not a behavior plan, a discipline procedure, an eligibility tool, or a therapy protocol, and it names no clinical finding. It carries no prompt hierarchy, fading schedule or mastery rule and promises no outcome. Your district's own rule for what happens after an unsafe action is named for real is not part of this file — a blank line on the hand-off page is where it goes. The goal line and the criterion field are blanks for your district's own wording and your team's own number.
Who This Is For
Special education teachers, paraprofessionals and specials teachers who already use (or are building) a safe-hands/safe-body routine and need the same cards to travel with a roving adult — the hallway monitor, the cafeteria duty staff, the specials teacher, the substitute — plus the case managers who need that use to show up as data, and the families who get the home page sent home.
More In The Collection
This single pairs with Safe Body and Safe Hands Sort Cards and Lesson (the flat sort-board version of the same bank, at three built-in levels) and Lanyard Cue Cards for Special Education (the same ring mechanic, carrying calm-down request and choice cards instead); more picture-card sets are being added to the collection regularly, all on the same cards-plus-data shape.
