About this resource

A skip counting craft where the numbers build the picture: a snail that counts by 2s, a caterpillar that counts by 5s and a ladybug that counts by 10s. Each craft is cut into 9 tiles and every tile has its number on it. Children color the tiles, cut them out and glue each one in the box that comes next when you count on. When every number is in the right place, the 9 tiles make one whole snail, caterpillar or ladybug, so the craft checks itself. It is made for kindergarten to 3rd grade and special education classrooms, with trace, fill-in and write versions so every child can start where they are. Print and go: you only need crayons, scissors and glue.

How The Crafts Work

Each craft has a tile page, a glue page and a recording sheet. The tile page holds 9 tiles, each 2.1 inches square, edge to edge, so every cut is a straight line. The tiles are black-and-white outlines to color. The glue page has 9 boxes, each exactly the size of a tile, and each box has a clue: the number that comes before, and how much to add ("count on from 6, plus 2"). A child finds the tile with the next number and glues it in the box. The caterpillar's head has no number: it goes in the box marked head, and then the child counts by 5s along the body. The tiles are printed in a shuffled order. A small picture of the finished craft sits on every page for checking. Every student page has a "My name" line and one short instruction with a picture.

What'S Inside

23 pages in all, 18 of them for students.

Cutting Built For Small Hands

Every cutting page has big squares lined up edge to edge: 2.1 inches for the craft tiles and 1.8 inches for the sort cards. 35 pieces to cut in all (3 crafts of 9 tiles, and 8 sort cards). Card stock suits the glue pages.

Who This Is For

Kindergarten to 3rd grade classrooms, self-contained special education classrooms, math centers, bulletin boards, and paraprofessionals who want a skip counting craft with the versions already made, ready to print.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

A printable PDF (print and cut). The crafts are paper puzzles to color, cut and glue. It is not Google Slides, Docs or PowerPoint, and it has no fillable fields. It is a skip counting craft, not a math program: it gives no guidance for any child and makes no claim about any student's age or rate of progress.
