About this resource
Spring Bingo is a picture bingo game for K–2 with 36 spring words, 30 boards, calling cards and a call sheet, so you can print it tonight and play it tomorrow. Every square is one clear picture with its word printed under it, so players match, say and read the word. Each board is 5 by 5 with a FREE center, in color and in black and white. It is a good fit for a spring party, a literacy center, speech and language groups, English learner groups and whole-class vocabulary review.
WHAT IS INCLUDED - 78 pages
- 36 calling cards, 9 to a page, edge to edge for straight cuts, each with its picture, number and word
- 30 boards, 5 by 5 with a FREE center and 24 pictures each, the word under every picture; no two boards alike, and any two boards share at most 19 of their 24 pictures
- The same 30 boards and 36 cards again in black and white (ink saver); Board 3 is Board 3 in both
- Call sheet with three shuffled orders (A, B, C) and a tick box for every word
- Word list with talk-about-it prompts
- A worked example page: an invented game on Board 5, eight calls, the middle row fills on the eighth
- Student word page: all 36 pictures, say the word, color the box
- Tokens page (20 cut-apart tokens, each with a small flower or sun picture, cut on the dashed lines) with the five ways to win pictured
- Note home with 12 lines for the day's words (type or write)
- Start Here page: set up, how to play, three ways to level it
- What's Next page
The Words
ladybug, kite, rainbow, umbrella, butterfly, tulip, nest, bumble bee, frog, bunny, lamb, duck, hen, caterpillar, snail, ant, dragonfly, grasshopper, daisy, sunflower, flower, seed packet, garden hose, lawn mower, sun, sunglasses, rain cloud, tadpole, egg, basket, rain boots, grass, bird, bicycle, tractor, beehive.
How To Play
1. Give each player a board and tokens (or jelly beans, dry beans or counters). Players cover the FREE square first.
2. The caller turns a card, says the word and shows the picture. Players say it back.
3. Players cover the picture; the caller ticks the word on the call sheet.
4. A row, a column, a diagonal or the four corners wins, and the FREE square counts; the winner calls Bingo and reads the words. Play for a full board when there is time.
Three ways to level it: show the picture and say the word (starting); say the word only, then show the picture after a count of three (building); give a clue and let players name the picture before they cover it (ready for more).
About The Pictures
Kid-friendly clip art by Whimsy Clips. Every picture is one thing a young child can point to and name.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a print-and-play PDF: boards, cards, call sheet and tokens print and cut. The note home page has type-in lines. It is NOT a digital/interactive file, Google Slides or PowerPoint. No prices are printed inside the PDF.
Who This Is For
Classroom teachers for a spring party or center, speech-language and special education teachers who want a whole-class vocabulary game with big pictures, one instruction per page and a black-and-white set for the copier, and English learner groups.
