About this resource
A St Patricks Day crown to color, cut and glue: three headband crowns (pot of gold, rainbow and shamrock), a green-or-gold sort, a word bank and writing on three levels, in one print-and-go craft for PreK to 2nd grade.
Each crown is a headband made of 7 pieces. Piece 1 (PATRICK'S) is tall and carries the topper: a pot of gold, a rainbow or a shamrock. Worn, the band reads HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY across the front, one word to a piece, with LUCKY at the back. Every piece has a glue tab on its right edge, so a piece goes under the next one, and the last piece has a long slide tab. Glued, the band measures about 20 inches around and slides out to about 21, which fits a child whose head measures about 20 to 21 inches around. Try it on before you glue the long tab. The pieces are black and white outlines for children to color, so they print well in ink-saver mode. A lay-out mat for each crown has 7 faint numbered boxes the same size as the pieces: lay each piece on its number, then glue the tabs in order. A finished model of each crown is on the Meet the Crowns page.
Then the crown goes to work. Children trace and write 6 words (crown, pot, gold, rainbow, shamrock, cloud) on handwriting lines. They cut 6 cards (shamrock, frog, grass, sun, gold coin, star) and sort them onto a green row or a gold row. Three writing pages start from a lucky crown: trace and draw, fill in the sentences with a word bank, or write freely. Every student page has one short instruction with a picture and a "My name" line.

Cutting Built For Small Hands
Every cutting page is a grid of big pieces lined up edge to edge, so each cut is one straight line. The topper on piece 1 is the only curve. 27 pieces to cut in all (7 for each of the 3 crowns and 6 sort cards). You will need crayons, scissors and glue sticks. Card stock makes a sturdier band.
Three Skill Levels
A small shape beside the name line marks each writing page (circle, square or triangle). Easier: a circle page (trace and draw), only the tall front piece and its neighbors, or a partner who holds the glue stick. Harder: write freely on the triangle page.
Who This Is For
PreK to 2nd grade classrooms, self-contained special education classrooms, and paraprofessionals who want a St Patricks Day crown with writing attached, ready to print. Use it for a March week or any week you want a green craft.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A printable PDF (print and cut). It is not Google Slides, Docs or PowerPoint, and it has no fillable fields. It makes no claim about any student's age or rate of progress.
