About this resource
You are out tomorrow and the sub needs one thing to pick up. This is a slim pocket-folder kit: a cover, tab labels to cut, a pocket checklist, the class information a substitute reaches for, and a report that comes back to you in writing.
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 22 pages
- A Start Here page, a contents page and a filled-in example day
- Build the folder: a folder cover and spine label (type the class, teacher and year), 8 tab labels to cut and tape, and a pocket checklist (7 items for each of 2 pockets, plus an 8-row tab guide)
- Class information: class at a glance (9 fields and 10 "where to find it" rows), a 13-row daily schedule, a 22-row class list, 12 classroom routines in your own words, a student helpers page (10 helper rows, 6 pairs that work well, 6 to seat apart), a 10-role who-to-ask page, and an emergency information page with 4 drill rows left blank for your building's own words
- The day: a 22-row attendance and lunch count day sheet, and "Hello, Substitute!", a page the children fill in themselves with a My name line, three prompts and a drawing box
- Report back: a 9-block end-of-day report, 18 rows of notes on students, a note to the returning teacher, and a phrase bank of 30 starters in 5 groups
- A "what's next" back page
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the pages, or print them and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. The pages are a PDF, so you cannot drag the boxes around or restyle the pages. It is not an editable slide deck.
It is working paper for a sub day. It does not say what a drill is, what your school does when a student is hurt, or what happens after a behavior step. Those are your school's own rules, and each of those pages leaves a blank for them. Nothing is pre-filled about any student. The example sub, teacher and students are invented and say so on the page.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten through 5th grade classroom teachers who want a simple, grab-and-go sub folder, teachers who share a grade level and cover for each other, and substitutes who walk in cold.
