About this resource
You are out tomorrow and the sub needs to know what to teach, hour by hour. This is a fillable sub lesson plan template: a one-day plan, a page of steps for each subject, a 5-day plan, an early finisher menu and a report that comes back to you in writing.
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 21 pages
- A Start Here page, a contents page and a filled-in example day
- Plan one day: a one-day plan with 11 time-block rows (start, end, subject, what students do, materials), and four subject-block pages (reading and writing, math, science or social studies, specials or other), each with a 6-step directions table, a materials card and early finishers
- Plan the week: a 5-day plan with 9 blocks across Monday to Friday, a copies and materials checklist for the 5 days, and an early finisher menu with 6 kinds of activity
- Run the day: room basics for the sub (6 fields and 7 "where to find it" rows), a 22-row attendance and lunch count day sheet, "My Sub Helper Page" and "When I Finish Early", two pages the children fill in themselves, each with a My name line
- Report back: an end-of-day report (8 blocks and 4 student notes), a note to the returning teacher, and a phrase bank of 30 starters in 5 groups
- A "what's next" back page
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the pages, or print them and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. The pages are a PDF, so you cannot drag the boxes around or restyle the pages. It is not an editable slide deck.
It is working paper for a sub day. It does not say what your school requires of a substitute, what a drill is, or what to do when a student is hurt. Those are your school's own rules; write them in the blanks. Nothing is pre-filled about any student. The example sub, teacher and students are invented and say so on the page.
Works With The Rest Of The Set
Want the full binder with class information, routines and sub notes? See the Substitute Teacher Binder Editable from Bright Path Sped. This file is the lesson plan pages only, so the two work well side by side.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten through 5th grade classroom teachers who write sub plans, teachers who share a grade level and cover for each other, and substitutes who walk in cold.
