About this resource
You are sick at 6 a.m. and the sub has never seen your room. This binder holds everything they ask, in one place, and gives you a written report when you are back.
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 32 pages
- 4 section dividers, a contents page, a Start Here page and a printable binder cover and spine label page
- Section 1, Set Up Once: class at a glance with 10 "where to find it" rows, a 13-row daily schedule, a bell schedule (8 rows) with a Monday to Friday specials table, a 22-row class list, a seating chart (6 tables of 6 seats), a helpful students page (9 helper rows, 6 pairs that work well, 6 to seat apart) and a who-to-ask page (10 roles)
- Section 2, How Our Class Runs: 12 classroom routines in your own words, arrival and dismissal (5 dismissal groups), duties and lunch and recess (7 duties), class rules and behavior notes, and an emergency and drill page with 4 drill rows left blank for your building's own words
- Section 3, Teach the Day: a 10-row lesson plan, lesson notes for 4 subjects, a 22-row attendance and lunch count sheet, an early finisher menu of 12 paper-and-pencil tasks, and 8 brain breaks
- Section 4, Report Back: an end-of-day substitute report (9 blocks), 18 rows of notes on students, a note to the returning teacher, and a phrase bank of 30 starters in 5 groups
- A filled example for an invented sub and class, with every count re-added from its own table
- A "what's next" back page
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the pages, or print them and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. The pages are a PDF, so you cannot drag the boxes around or restyle the pages.
It is working paper for a sub day. It does not say what a drill is, what your school does when a student is hurt, or what happens after a behavior step. Those are your school's own rules, and each of those pages leaves a blank for them. Nothing is pre-filled about any student. The example sub, teacher and students are invented and say so on the page.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten through 5th grade classroom teachers who need a sub-ready binder, teachers who share a grade level and cover for each other, and substitutes who walk in cold.
