About this resource
One picture, two words: eight pairs of synonyms, sixteen cut-apart picture cards, where each pair is the SAME picture printed under two different cards -- a runner labeled "quick" on one card and "speedy" on the other, a flower labeled "pretty" and "beautiful," a shield labeled "brave" and "fearless." Each card carries one big picture and one big word, and the two cards of a pair sit side by side, so a child can see that two different words point at the same thing. Each card gets its own mark, and the file never decides what counts as a correct answer; that stays your own scoring rule.
WHAT IS INCLUDED -- 19 pages, 345 type-in fields
Picture Cards
- 16 picture cards in full color, each a big cut-apart piece laid edge to edge in a grid so cutting is a few straight lines -- 8 pairs: Form A (2 pairs), Form B (3 pairs), Form C (3 pairs)
- The same 16 cards again as an ink-saver set in pure black outlines, for the photocopier
- An adult box under each card page naming what a child may call the pictured object instead of either printed word (for example "runner" for both quick and speedy), so your scoring rule is decided before the first probe
- Pictures are Noto Emoji (color) and Fluent Emoji High Contrast (ink-saver); no answer key or drawn art needed -- every picture exists natively in both sets
Probe And Track
- 3 quick picture probe forms (A, B, C) of varying size: Form A has 2 pairs (4 pictures), Form B has 3 pairs (6 pictures), Form C has 3 pairs (6 pictures) -- the three forms together are the whole 16-card deck with no overlap
- Full-Deck Probe -- all 8 pairs on one sheet, a mark for each card, and a column for what was actually said
- Data Log -- 17 rows: date, form, correct, out of, percent, notes
- Percent Graph -- 14 probes across, 0-100 percent grid, a field for the team's own criterion
- Caseload Summary -- 16 rows: student, pairs worked on, baseline, current, trend, decision
Share And Write
- Practice at Home -- a family update built from five of the same pairs used in session, a weekly practice table, and lines for synonyms a family noticed outside of practice time
- Phrase Bank -- 18 observable-language starters across 5 groups (accuracy, what was said, carryover, the log and graph, the caseload page)
- Filled Example -- an invented student, eight probes, every percent re-counted from its own row
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the log, graph, caseload page, family page, and probe-form headers, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document, and it is not a norm-referenced or standardized test.
It carries no elicitation, cueing or modeling script. It does not decide what counts as a correct response, a criterion, or a typical rate for synonyms -- every one of those is your own call, written once and reused every session. Pictures replace the printed word list a child cannot yet read; they do not replace your scoring rule.
Who This Is For
Speech-language pathologists and special education teams working on synonyms, vocabulary and word relationships with young or pre-reading students, and the families who get the practice page sent home. A second deck for students ready for more pairs or for re-probing the same skill across different word banks.
