About this resource
Three math packs that are useful in September and still useful in June, because none of them is tied to a season, a holiday or a unit.
Telling time, coins, and addition to 20. Every pack has the same nine skills at three levels, the same page anatomy and the same direction line, so a student who has learned how the clock page works already knows how the coin page works.
WHAT IS INCLUDED - 3 packs, 123 pages, 81 worksheets
- Telling Time Cut and Paste - 41 pages
- Money and Coins Cut and Paste - 41 pages
- Addition to 20 Cut and Paste - 41 pages
How The Three Levels Work
Level 1 - two or three problems, everything drawn as large as the page allows, and a printed cue under each one. There are exactly as many pieces on the strip as there are boxes, so there is no wrong piece to pick up.
Level 2 - four problems, the cue gone, and one spare piece on the strip that belongs to nothing. The student has to reject something instead of matching everything.
Level 3 - six problems, nothing cued, and the items chosen to be confusable rather than convenient.
Print one skill at three levels and the whole room works the same page at the same time.
The Pictures Are Computed, Not Drawn By Eye
This is the part most worksheets get wrong, and it is the part that confuses students.
On the clocks, the hour hand sits at thirty degrees per hour PLUS half a degree per minute, so at 3:30 the short hand really is halfway between the 3 and the 4.
On the coins, no coin has its value printed on it. They are told apart by size (real diameter ratios), edge (the dime and quarter are reeded, the penny and nickel are smooth) and picture - all three of which survive a black-and-white photocopy, and all three of which transfer to a real coin in a real hand.
On the addition pages, the dominoes carry real pips in the standard die layout, so a 9-9 domino has eighteen dots a student can touch and count. The number lines are drawn from their range. The ten-frames fill from the left and the second addend carries straight on in a second colour.
Skills You Can Actually Use
The last six pages of the time pack attach a real time to a real part of a school day - the alarm, breakfast, school starting, lunch, the bus home, bedtime. The last six pages of the money pack are a shop: read a price tag, glue the coins that pay for it exactly, then work out the one coin that closes the gap. Print either with your own class schedule or your own price tags and they become functional-skills lessons rather than math pages.
Format
Print-and-go PDF. No prep, no materials beyond scissors and glue. Black-line art with colour only on the level banner and direction bar, so a grayscale copy works exactly as well as a colour one. Three pages of answer keys and six section dividers in every pack.
Who This Is For
Self-contained, resource and life-skills classrooms, early intervention, and any elementary room with a wide skill range in it. Also a progress-monitoring set: a clean Level 3 in May beside a Level 1 in October is a data point you can put in a report.
