About this resource
Looking for Thanksgiving decodable readers your kindergarten or first grade group can read on their own? Each of the 12 readers is one page: a picture to color, four words to read, four short lines of story, two questions and three circles to color as the child reads it again. Every word in every line is a word of that reader's pattern (short vowels, digraphs, or beginning blends), a word from an earlier pattern, or one of 9 listed sight words, so children read what they can sound out. Print and go, or type into the PDF.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (28 pages)
- 12 one-page readers: 4 short-vowel (CVC), 4 digraph (sh, ch, th) and 4 beginning-blend readers
- 48 lines of story (257 words) about yams, ham, a hen and a tom, mashed yams, shopping, plum jam, stuffing, a parade drum and a crop
- 12 pictures to color, drawn for this set, one on every reader (a turkey, a ham, sweet potatoes, a shopping cart, plums and more)
- 48 words to read: 4 in a box on each reader, the pattern letters in color
- 24 questions, 2 per reader, each with an answer line, plus a key
- 3 word-practice pages: 16 words to read and write on each
- "Read it 3 times" circles on every reader, for repeated reading
- A reader list, a pattern guide with the 9 sight words, a reading tracker, a filled example (an invented student), a roll-up, a reading-at-home page for families, 17 note starters, a binder cover and spine, and Start Here
How It Works
1. Pick a pattern and read the words-to-read box together.
2. The child reads the four lines, colors a circle, and reads again, three times in all.
3. The child colors the picture and answers two questions out loud or on the lines.
4. Record it on the tracker; the roll-up shows how it is going.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
A big "My name" line, one short instruction with a small picture, big print and a scalloped border. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult: the key, tracker and notes are on separate teacher pages. Three shapes by the page title (circle, square, triangle) mark the three patterns.
