About this resource

Looking for Thanksgiving poems your students can read with a partner? This set has 8 original poems, written for it, with short lines and simple rhyme for grades 1-3: a turkey that struts, a thank-you list, pumpkin pie, falling leaves, the family table, harvest day, a parade and mashed potatoes. Every line is marked for a reader: a blue circle for Voice 1, an orange square for Voice 2 and a green triangle for both voices together, so two children can read a poem the first time they see it. Print and go, or type into the PDF.

EVERYTHING INSIDE (34 sheets)

How It Works

1. Pick a poem and print the page.

2. Two children read it together: Voice 1 reads the circle lines, Voice 2 reads the square lines, and both read the triangle lines. Then they switch.

3. The child colors a box after each of three reads.

4. For poems 1-4, add the fluency page, the draw page and the words page.

5. Write how many words the child stumbled on in the tracker and watch the number go down.

Built For The Child Holding The Page

A big "My name" line, one short instruction with a small picture, big print, a scalloped border and room to write and color. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult: the key, tracker and notes are on separate teacher pages behind a divider tab.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

It is a fillable PDF: click into a name line or an answer line and type, or print it and write by hand. It is not a Google Slides, Docs or PowerPoint file. Nothing needs cutting. The poems are about gratitude, food, fall and family; none makes a religious or historical claim. It does not test, place or label students.

Who This Is For

First, second and third grade teachers, special education teachers, interventionists and families who want short seasonal poems for repeated reading and partner reading.
