About this resource
Winter Would You Rather, ready to print: 30 question cards with a picture for every choice, plus pages where children pick, tell why, tally the class vote and graph it. It is a fillable PDF for grades K to 3, with 17 student sheets in color and no prep beyond printing and cutting. The questions are about winter fun: snow, ice, cocoa, mittens and cozy days indoors. They are silly and low-pressure, and there is no wrong answer.
What Is Included
- 30 winter would you rather question cards on cut-apart sheets, six to a sheet. Each card shows choice A and choice B with its own picture, so a child who is still learning to read can point.
- 5 choose-and-explain sheets: pick and draw why, pick and tell why with a "because", a paragraph with two reasons, think about both sides, and three quick picks with a because each.
- 4 tally and graph sheets: tally your class vote, color a class graph, tally five cards and see who won, and read two finished graphs (how many more, how many in all).
- 2 make-and-ask sheets: 6 blank cards to write, draw and cut, and an ask-five-friends survey.
- 1 words page: because, also, but and so, with sentence starters and lines to try them.
- Teacher pages: Start Here with a which-page-when table, teacher notes with the answer key for the graph-reading page, a card index of all 30 questions, a filled example (an invented class and student), a family page, a What's Next page, terms of use and a thank-you page.
How To Use It
1. Print the cards, cut them apart along the dashed lines, and keep them in an envelope.
2. Read a card aloud. Children point to A or B, stand up, or walk to a side of the room. Then ask what makes them say that.
3. Hand out a writing sheet to get the reason down, or a tally sheet to count the class vote and graph it.
4. A small shape in the corner of the writing and tally sheets tells you the level: a circle (2 sheets) is starting, a square (6 sheets) is building, a triangle (3 sheets) is ready for more.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
Cards, pictures and boxes are big and plain. Every sheet has a big "My name" line, one short direction with a picture, and room to write or draw. The cut-apart cards sit edge to edge, so each cut is one straight line. Every page reads in black and white too.
Type In, Or Print
The name lines, the pick boxes, the count boxes and the writing lines are type-in fields in any PDF reader. Tally marks, graph squares and drawings are made by hand on a printed page. You can also print any page and write by hand. Print at 100 percent with fit-to-page turned off. This is a fillable PDF for printing and typing; it is not a slide or word processor file.
Who This Is For
Teachers of grades K to 3, resource rooms and self-contained classrooms who want a winter warm-up, a partner-talk game, an opinion writing prompt or a quick graphing lesson in one set.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
Working paper for talking, choosing, writing a reason and counting a class vote. It is not a full writing or math curriculum, an assessment or a therapy program, and it makes no health claims. Your school decides what a child should be able to do and when.
