About this resource
Looking for a book report template that works for fiction AND nonfiction? This set has 14 student pages for grades 3 to 6: two fiction report layouts, two nonfiction layouts, pages for characters, setting, beginning-middle-end and a summary, a rating page, and a page to design a book cover. Every page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a small picture, and big boxes and ruled lines with room for a child's handwriting. Print and go, or type into the PDF.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (26 pages)
- 4 whole-book report pages: a fiction report with fill-in boxes, a fiction report to write on lines (beginning, middle, end, opinion), a nonfiction report (three things I learned, a new word, a question, text features), and a nonfiction fact web with 6 fact boxes and a drawing box
- 5 story-element pages: all about a character (a word bank and proof from the book), how a character changes, the setting, beginning-middle-end with a drawing box and lines for each, and Somebody Wanted But So Then
- A rate-it-and-recommend-it page (color the stars, a reason, a favorite part) and a design-a-book-cover page (front cover box, title, author, back cover)
- A report word helper (16 sentence starters and a describing-words card, 6 cards in all), a check-my-report page with 8 items, and a reading log with 12 rows
- For the grown-up: a Start Here page, a teacher page (5 ways to use the pages, 5 look-fors, 6 feedback starters, a blank line for your school's own scoring rule), a filled example (an invented student and an invented book), a class chart with 15 rows, a note home with 6 book-talk questions, a binder cover and 6 divider tabs
- Terms of use and a What's Next page
How It Works
1. Choose a whole-book report, or one story element at a time.
2. Print a page and hand it over. One short instruction, one job.
3. Children use the check page and rate the book. You use the look-fors and record on the log and the class chart.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
A big "My name" line, big print, a colored border and room to write. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult; the teacher page, class chart and example are separate. The example student, book, author and titles are all invented, and the filled example's stars and totals are added up on the page.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
