About this resource
Teaching community helpers shouldn't mean hunting for four different printables. This is one complete kit: match
twelve helpers to their tools and their jobs, cut and glue a sort, and read two clues to name the helper, with a
tracker, a class grid, a family note and a circle time starter so nothing has to be written from scratch.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (30 pages)
- 13 student pages in 4 formats: 3 Match the Tool, 3 Match the Job, 4 Cut and Paste sorts, 3 Who Am I? pages
- 12 community helpers: Firefighter, Police Officer, Mail Carrier, Doctor, Dentist, Teacher, Farmer, Librarian,
Baker, Bus Driver, Construction Worker, Crossing Guard
- 24 sort pieces to cut, edge to edge in a grid (six a page), so each cut is one straight line
- 12 Who Am I? riddles, two clue sentences each, with a word list on every page
- Every tool, job, clue and sort piece fits one helper only
- 2 answer keys built from the same table as the student pages
- 1 tracker (first try / second try), 1 class progress grid, 1 family note, 1 circle time starter
- 1 filled example (an invented student), 1 phrase bank (10 starters), 1 binder cover, 6 divider tabs and a spine
label to cut out
- Start Here, a how-to-read-a-page page, a contents page, and a Meet the Twelve Helpers reference page
The Four Formats
1. Match the Tool — four helper names and five tools (one is left over); write the letter. One dot.
2. Match the Job — four helper names and five job phrases (one is left over); write the letter. Two dots.
3. Cut and Paste — cut six pieces and glue two under each of three helpers. Two dots.
4. Who Am I? — read two clues and write the helper from a six-name word list (two names are left over). Three dots.
Answer positions are scrambled so a child cannot guess by pattern.
Words Only
There are no pictures. The words do the work, which keeps the pages clean to print in black and white and
different from the picture-card and task box versions of this topic.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
A big "My name" line, one short instruction, large rounded letters, room to write, and dots (not words) to show
which level a page is. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, tracker, class grid, family note and circle time starter are type-in fields in any PDF
reader. The letters and names a student writes are pencil work. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google
Slides, Docs or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten, first and second grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, and anyone running a
community helpers unit or a circle time on the topic.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A classroom worksheet set with the record-keeping around it. It is not a behavior plan, a screener or a clinical
tool, and the example student is invented. There is no IEP goal language or eligibility wording anywhere in the
file.
