About this resource
A picture card for every community building on the probe, so a child who cannot yet read a word list still has something to look at. Twelve buildings, cut apart, sorted into an everyday-errand group and a landmark-or-worship group — the building side of community vocabulary, next to Community Helper and Tool Match Picture Cards' people and jobs.
WHAT IS INCLUDED — 23 pages, 319 type-in fields
Picture Cards
- 12 community building picture cards in full color, large, one name under each, dashed cut-apart border, mixed across both groups so the page gives nothing away: department store, convenience store, post office, office building, apartment building, train station, church, mosque, synagogue, museum, pagoda, tower
- The same 12 cards again as an ink-saver set in pure black outlines, for the photocopier
- A note printed on both card pages naming the 9 pictures a young child may name another way (department store or convenience store as simply "store," post office and office building as "building," apartment building as "houses," train station as "train," museum as "bank," pagoda as "temple," tower as "Eiffel Tower"), including two confusable pairs called out by name, so the scoring rule is decided once, before the first probe
Sort Mats And Answer Key
- Sort Mat 1 — an errorless level with a faint picture guide in each group
- Sort Mat 2 — an independent sort, both groups, no picture guide
- Sort Mat 3 — write the word under each picture, plus a sentence-writing line
- Answer Key — every picture, the group it belongs in, and the mat header pictures named
Probe And Track
- 3 quick picture probe forms (A, B, C), 4 pictures each, untimed, each picture marked in the right group or not; the three forms are an exact split of the 12-building bank with no overlap
- Full-Deck Probe — all 12 buildings on one sheet, in the same mixed deck order as the cut-apart cards, one mark per picture
- Data Log — 17 rows: date, form, correct, out of, percent, notes
- Percent Graph — 14 probes across, 0–100 percent grid, a field for the team's own criterion
- Caseload Summary — 16 rows: student, baseline, current, trend, decision
Share And Write
- Places Near Home — a family update built from six of the same pictures used in session, a weekly practice table, and lines for the places a family named outside of practice time
- Phrase Bank — 19 observable-language starters across 5 groups (accuracy, which group, carryover, the log and graph, the caseload page)
- Filled Example — an invented student, eight probes, every percent re-counted from its own row
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the log, graph, caseload page, family page, and probe-form headers, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document, and it is not a norm-referenced or standardized test.
It carries no elicitation, cueing or modeling script. It does not decide what counts as a correct sort, a criterion, or a typical rate for sorting community places — every one of those is this clinician's own call, written once and reused every session. Pictures replace the printed word list a child cannot yet read; they do not replace the clinician's scoring rule.
Who This Is For
Speech-language pathologists and special education teams with young or pre-reading students on an expressive-vocabulary or community-vocabulary goal, and the families who get the practice page sent home.
