About this resource

Decoding a sentence and understanding it are not the same skill. This is the comprehension step: the

same kind of short, decodable sentence this store already sells in Decodable Sentences CVC

Sentence-Picture Match, but every one of the sixteen sentences here comes with three real questions —

a Yes/No fact, a Yes/No false detail, and a Circle the Picture check — so a teacher can see whether the

sentence was understood, not just sounded out.

EVERYTHING INSIDE (24 pages)

child already knows

Yes/No question that names a detail the sentence does NOT contain, and a Circle the Picture question

offering the sentence's own picture against one other picture that never appears in its text — every

answer checked in code against the sentence's own words, not assumed

How Every Answer Is Checked, Not Assumed

Every fact question is verified to only ask about words the sentence itself contains. Every false-detail

question is verified to name at least one word genuinely absent from the sentence — so the "No" answer

is a fact about the text, not a guess. The picture question's two choices are always the sentence's own

target word and a different target word that is verified absent from that sentence's text. None of the

forty-eight answers is printed on the page the child works from; they live on the Answer Key only.

Not The Same Product As Decodable Sentences Cvc Sentence-Picture Match

This store also sells Decodable Sentences CVC Sentence-Picture Match (16 different sentences, four

hands-on formats — Read and Match, Cut and Paste, Illustrate It, Decoding Check — built around finding

the one picture a sentence describes). That product is about matching a sentence to its picture. This

one is about comprehension: every sentence carries real questions to answer, checked in code against its

own text. The two use the same audited picture set and reading level, and pair well together, but they

do not share a single sentence or page.

Type In, Or Print

The name and date lines, the tracker, the class grid, the family page and the Quick Check score boxes

are type-in fields in any PDF reader. The Comprehension Check, Quick Check and Weekly Review pages

themselves are always pencil-and-circle work. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides, Google

Docs or PowerPoint file.

Who This Is For

Self-contained, resource and early-intervention rooms, and any K-1 classroom with students who can read

single CVC words and short sentences and are ready to answer questions about what they read. Pairs with

this store's Decodable Sentences CVC Sentence-Picture Match and CVC Words Handwriting Practice.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

A print-and-practice comprehension pack with the record-keeping around it. It is not a reading

curriculum, not a phonics program, and not a claim about any student's age or rate of progress.
