About this resource
Teach the final consonant blends with one color for each ending. This is 31 pages: a chart poster and a big poster for nd, nk, mp, st, lt and ft, picture cards, word cards and desk strips to cut, two sort mats, three practice pages and everything a teacher needs to run it. Print what you need, or type into the pages first.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (31 pages)
- 7 big posters, one to a page: a chart of all six endings, then one poster each for nd, nk, mp, st, lt and ft. Each shows a picture, the word built in letter boxes (the first sounds, then the ending in its own colored box), six words with the ending colored, and a short sentence.
- 12 picture cards to cut (hand, skunk, lamp, nest, quilt, gift, wand, ink, stamp, vest, ghost, toast), in color and in ink-saver, 3 across and 4 down.
- 24 word cards to cut, 4 for each ending (pond, sand, bend, send; sink, pink, drink, bank; jump, bump, pump, dump; fist, list, best, rest; belt, melt, salt, felt; raft, lift, left, soft), on 12-card sheets with the ending in color, and again in ink-saver. Cards touch edge to edge, so each cut is one straight line.
- 8 desk strips to cut on each sheet, in color and in ink-saver, each showing all six endings with a picture word. 88 pieces on 8 cut sheets in all.
- 2 sort mats (nd, nk and mp; st, lt and ft) with 6 write-in lines for each ending.
- 3 practice pages, 24 items in all: match the ending (8 pictures, three endings to circle, the starting level), write the ending (10 pictures, the building level) and write your own (a word and a sentence for each of the 6 endings, the ready-for-more level).
- Teacher pages: Start Here with a which-page-when chart, five short steps to teach it, an answer key, a class roll-up, a filled example (an invented class), a note to families, a phrase bank of 20 starters in 5 groups, and a binder cover with spine and 4 tabs.
- Terms of use and a thank-you page.
How To Use It
Hang the chart first and read the six endings together. Add one ending poster at a time: say the picture word, tap the letter boxes, read the six words. Cut the picture cards and the word cards and let children sort them on the mats. Use the color cards when children need the cue and the ink-saver cards when they should find the ending themselves. Then match the ending, write the ending and write their own words. Give each child a desk strip and use the roll-up to see which words to practice again.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short direction with a picture, and room to write. Each ending has its own color, and everything reads in black and white too. Cut pages come in a color set and an ink-saver set.
Type In, Or Print
The name lines, the sort mats, the practice pages, the class roll-up, the family note and every notes area are type-in fields in any PDF reader. You can also print any page and write by hand. Print at 100 percent with fit-to-page turned off. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten to 2nd grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, phonics and spelling centers, intervention groups, paraprofessionals, substitutes, and families who want to practice the same idea at home. Pairs with Three Consonant Blends from Bright Path Sped, which covers the starts of words.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
Classroom posters, cards and working paper for six letter patterns at the end of words. People say some words differently in different places, and your own reading program decides how the blends are taught. It is not a full phonics program and it does not replace your own reading curriculum. Twelve words have a picture; the rest of the words are letters only.
