About this resource
A friendship craft for your classroom: paper bracelets to color, cut out, wrap round a wrist and tape, each with a gift tag to give to a friend. Kind-word bracelets, a kind or not kind sort and writing on three levels, all in one print-and-go unit for PreK to 2nd grade.
Children color a row of hearts and stars on a bracelet strip, cut it out and wrap it round a wrist; an adult tapes the ends to each other. The strip is cut off the same row as its gift tag, so the child writes To and From and gives the bracelet to a friend. Choose the strip that fits the child: eight strips have kind words already printed ("You are kind", "Friends help", "Be a good friend" and more) and four are write-your-own, with a starter such as "A good friend" and a line to finish it. Every student page has a "My name" line and one short instruction with a picture.
What'S Inside
- Start Here: how the bracelets work, which strip to use, the sort, the three levels and a five-day plan
- Meet the bracelets: a finished pair of bracelets, and a trace-and-write line
- Friend words to trace: 4 words (friend, heart, star, bracelet), each with a picture, on handwriting lines
- How to make it: four picture steps with one short sentence each
- 12 bracelet strips to cut, each with a gift tag beside it: 8 with kind words printed and 4 to write on
- A kind or not kind sort: a kind mat and a not-kind mat, with 12 cards to cut and glue (what a friend might do)
- Writing on three levels: trace and draw, finish "A good friend..." from a four-word bank, or write "I can be a friend by..."
- Friends I appreciate: draw four friends and write why you like them
- Design your own bracelet: a big bracelet to color, with a line for who it is for
- A class page with the sort answers, a family letter and a credits page (font and clip-art notes)
17 pages in all, 12 of them for students.
Cutting Built For Small Hands
Every cutting page has pieces edge to edge with a dashed cut line, so each cut is one straight line. A bracelet strip is 5.5 by 2.1 inches and its gift tag is 2.0 by 2.1 inches, four rows a page. 36 pieces to cut in all (12 strips, 12 tags and 12 sort cards). You will need pencils, crayons, scissors and tape. If a strip is too short for a wrist, tape two strips end to end. Tape the strip to itself, not to skin or hair.
Three Skill Levels
A small shape beside the name line marks each leveled writing page (circle, square or triangle). Easier: trace and draw (circle). Harder: finish two "A good friend..." sentences from the word bank (square), or write "I can be a friend by..." and one more sentence (triangle).
Who This Is For
PreK to 2nd grade classrooms, self-contained special education classrooms, and paraprofessionals who want a friendship craft with writing attached, ready to print.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A printable PDF (print and cut). It is not Google Slides, Docs or PowerPoint, and it has no fillable fields. It does not score or measure anything, and it makes no claim about any student's age or rate of progress.
