About this resource
Gestalt language processing activities for PreK-2: everyday picture scene cards with a blank phrase strip under each one, so a family or an SLP can write down the child's own words exactly as heard, with the date, where it was and who heard it. Cut the cards, keep the log, send a page home.
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 26 pages
- 12 scene cards to cut, 3 across and 4 down, cut on the dotted lines. Each has a picture, a word for the moment and two blank lines under "Their words": milk spill, hug, slide, snack, rain, bubbles, bath, bedtime, car ride, birthday cake, blocks fall and a dog
- The same 12 scene cards in black-and-white ink-saver
- 12 blank scene cards: draw a moment or stick on a photo, then add the words
- 8 phrase strips to cut apart, each with a box for a scene and two lines for their words
- 3 big scene pages (6 scenes) with room for the words, where it was and who was there
- My Own Scene: a page for a moment from the child's own day, with a frame to draw in or stick a photo on
- Where the Words Came Out: 6 places (home, school, car, playground, store, outside) with lines for the words
- A phrase log (17 rows: date, what was said, scene, where, who heard it)
- One Week at a Glance: 7 days by morning, afternoon and evening, 21 boxes
- A running phrase list (18 rows: first heard, the phrase, a tally for each time it comes back, where, who)
- A weekly roll-up (8 weeks) with a graph of times heard
- A filled example: an invented child, one week on the log and three weeks on the roll-up
- A family page with 6 small scene cards to cut apart and a note home
- A hand-off page so a paraprofessional, another classroom or a babysitter writes words down the same way
- A phrase bank: 21 starters in 6 groups for the log, the phrase list, the roll-up and the note home
- A storage and binder label sheet: 12 labels and a spine strip
- Start Here, a contents page that maps every page, and a "what's next" back page
The Student Pages
Every child's page has a "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture, big pictures and big rounded words. The child in the filled example is invented.
The Scene Cards
Twelve moments from a child's day. Use them one at a time, hand a child two or three, or tuck a few in a bag for the car. A blank card holds any moment that is not printed here. Which words you write, and what you do with them, are yours and your team's.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the lines, the log, the lists and the family and hand-off pages, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document.
It is a set of picture cards, strips and recording pages. It is not a program or a method, it names no stages, and it gives no steps, scripts or goals. The meaning of a phrase and what to do next are for the child's family and team.
Who This Is For
Families, speech-language pathologists, special education teachers and paraprofessionals who want one place to keep a young child's own words, with a picture, a date and a name, for PreK through grade 2.
