About this resource
Print-and-go listen and draw pages for grades K-3. You read a short direction aloud, one step at a time, and the student draws it in a big blank scene: "Draw a house on the ground. Draw a sun in the top right corner. Draw a flower next to the house." Twenty read-aloud scripts at three levels (one, two and three steps), a circle for the student to color for every step, and a check strip and log for you.
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 33 pages
- 10 drawing pages, two big scenes to a page: 20 scenes in all, one for each script. Each scene has the student's name line, one short instruction with a picture, a level shape, and one circle to color for every step
- 20 read-aloud scripts in 3 levels: 6 at level 1 (one step), 8 at level 2 (two steps), 6 at level 3 (three steps), 40 steps in all. Position words throughout: on, under, next to, above, inside, in the top corner, on the left
- 3 scene frames: sky and ground (10 scripts), room with a floor (5 scripts) and plain (5 scripts)
- 3 read-aloud pages, one per level, with the words to say, the page of the matching scene, and a check strip with one box per step to type a Y in
- My Turn: the student makes up two steps, says them, and a friend draws in a big plain scene
- 4 blank scenes on 2 pages (sky, room and two plain) for scripts you write
- My Own Scripts: 10 rows to type or write your own scripts, with a frame and up to three steps
- A how-to page, plus Start Here and a contents page
- A Listen and Draw Log (20 rows: date, script number, steps in the script, steps drawn as asked, initials)
- A weekly roll-up (8 weeks) with a percent graph
- A filled example: an invented student, one week on the log, three weeks on the roll-up and a table by level
- A family page with three scripts to read at home on plain paper, and a note home
- A hand-off page so a paraprofessional or another classroom reads the same scripts the same way
- A phrase bank: 23 lines in 6 groups (spoken lines for the read-aloud, written starters for the log, the roll-up and the note home)
- A storage and binder label sheet: 12 labels and a spine strip
- A "what's next" back page
The Drawing Pages
Every student page has a "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture, and a scene the size of half a page to draw in. The scripts are not printed on the student pages, so the student has to listen. A circle, a square and a triangle mark the three levels, so children are not comparing numbers. Scenes are pale tints that still read when photocopied in black and white.
The Read-Aloud Scripts
Read one step, wait while the student draws, then read the next. The words are in your hands only, on the read-aloud pages, with a box for each step to type Y when it was drawn as asked. What counts as drawn as asked is your judgment, and your classroom's own routine for repeating a step comes first.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the name lines, the writing lines, the check strip, the log, the roll-up, the family page and the hand-off page, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document.
