About this resource
One binder for every K-2 student working on number sense and operations. Print it once, slip the pages into sheet protectors, hand a child a dry-erase marker, and the intervention is ready: number identification 0-20, number sequencing, comparing numbers to 20, number bonds to 10, place value, addition facts, subtraction facts, and mixed addition and subtraction to 20, each behind its own colored tab. No cutting, no laminating, no prep beyond the sheet protectors. No pictures to misname, either: every item is a numeral, a dot or a base-ten block, drawn plain, so there is nothing on a page that can be called by a second name.
What this binder has that others do not: every section ends with a one-page progress check. Ten items in that section's own format, a six-check score strip and a mini graph on the same page, so you can see whether the practice is working without pulling a separate assessment. One tracker page at the front holds all eight sections for a child, a filled-in example shows what months of checks look like, and a family update page is ready to send home.
The Eight Sections
1. Number Identification 0-20 (16 pages): 4 point-and-say grids (all 21 numbers shuffled), 4 find-the-number pages targeting look-alike digits (6/9, 2/5, 1/7, 3/8), 4 count-and-match pages (a ten-frame quantity, circle the matching numeral), 3 number-line hunt pages, progress check.
2. Number Sequencing (17 pages): 6 before-and-after pages (numbers to 99), 4 what's-missing pages (one blank in a run of three consecutive numbers), 3 count-forward-and-back pages, 3 fill-the-number-line pages, progress check.
3. Comparing Numbers to 20 (15 pages): 6 greater/less/equal pages, 4 compare-with-ten-frames pages, 4 order-the-numbers pages (three numbers, least to greatest), progress check.
4. Number Bonds to 10 (17 pages): 6 make-a-ten pages, 4 ten-frame-bonds pages (how many more make 10), 3 bond-triangle pages, 3 two-ways-to-ten pages (circle two numbers in a row that make 10), progress check.
5. Place Value: Tens and Ones (15 pages): 6 tens-and-ones pages, 4 base-ten-blocks pages (count drawn rods and units, write the number), 4 build-the-number pages (write a number as tens plus ones), progress check.
6. Addition Facts (15 pages): 6 solve-it pages (sums to 10, vertical format), 4 doubles-and-near-doubles pages, 4 ten-frame-addition pages (two ten-frame groups, write the sum), progress check.
7. Subtraction Facts (15 pages): 6 solve-it pages (take-away to 10, vertical format), 4 subtraction-ten-frame pages (cross out to take away), 4 fact-family-triangle pages (one addition fact and its two subtraction facts), progress check.
8. Mixed Addition and Subtraction to 20 (15 pages): 6 solve-it mixed-review pages (crossing ten), 4 make-a-ten-strategy pages (break the second number apart), 4 mixed-practice pages, progress check (correct out of 10, consistent with every other check in this file).
How It Is Used
- One-to-one intervention and small groups: open the tab the child needs, work five to ten minutes, wipe the page.
- Practice between weekly progress monitoring probes, or as the practice behind a math goal.
- A paraprofessional or volunteer can run any page: the instruction is on it.
- Print a page instead of protecting it to send home.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
This is a practice binder for number sense and operations to 20, with a check for each skill. It is a PDF: print it, or type into the check pages and the tracker. It is not a curriculum, not a norm-referenced test, and not Google Slides or PowerPoint. The progress checks carry no benchmark score; your team decides what a passing score is for each child.
Who This Is For
Special education teachers, math interventionists, Title I and RTI teachers, kindergarten through second grade classroom teachers with a small group, and paraprofessionals and tutors who run the practice.
