About this resource
A child who traces the numeral beautifully and then, with the dots gone, draws it from the bottom
up does not need a prettier tracing sheet. That child needs the start dot and the arrows for a
while, then a page where the dots fade out, then a page with nothing but a quantity picture. This
is that: every number from 0 to 20, three pages each, on one rule.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (78 pages)
- 63 practice pages — numbers 0 to 20 x 3 pages, in order
- 1 formation chart to post — every digit 0 to 9 with its numbered start dots and direction
arrows, drawn exactly as it appears on the practice pages; the same ten shapes form the tens and
ones digits in 10 through 20
- 1 whole-set review page (0 to 20) and 1 blank practice page on the same rule
- 1 number tracker (one student, 0-20) and 1 class grid (whole class x 0-20), type-in or print
- 1 family page — the week's numbers, three plain steps, a practice rule to send home, and a note
box each way
- 1 filled example — an invented student's tracker, every number on it read off its own table
- 1 phrase bank — progress-note, family-note and next-step starters, observations with blanks
- 1 binder cover with a spine label and six divider tabs
- Start Here, a how-to-read-a-page key, and a number index that gives every page number
The Three Pages For Every Number
1. Trace — one big guided model with a numbered start dot on every stroke and arrows along the
path, then five rows of six: the first row carries the arrows on two of the six, the next two
rows are start-dot only, and the last two are plain dotted trace.
2. Trace and Write — no arrows. Each of six rows is two dark dotted numbers, two faint ones, then
three empty spaces to write in.
3. Write — the quantity cue and the number word are the only cue ("7" beside seven dots, "seven").
Four rows to write the numeral, one row to write the number word.
The three dots on the name line are the level code, there for the teacher: no student page carries
a level word, and every page is the same slate tone, so nobody's paper is obviously the easy one.
The Rule And The Quantity Cue
Every row is a solid top line, a dashed middle line and a heavy 3px baseline, drawn in the same
picture as the numbers, so a traced number sits exactly on its lines. Every page prints clean on a
black-and-white copier. The quantity cue on every page is plain filled circles, drawn as vector
shapes by this file — never a counting-icon font or a licensed picture set, so there is no picture
question at any count from 0 to 20.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, the tracker, the class grid, the family page and the binder cover are
type-in fields in any PDF reader. The tracing rows are always pencil work. This is a fillable PDF;
it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Self-contained, resource and early-intervention rooms, and any K-2 classroom with students who are
learning to form numbers. Pairs with this store's Letter Formation Handwriting Tracing Practice
A-Z, built on the same tracing engine.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A print-and-trace practice pack with the record-keeping around it. It is not a handwriting
curriculum, not a timed probe, and not a claim about any student's age or rate of progress. The
how-to page has a blank line for your district's own criterion.
