About this resource

A picture and its word on every card, and a mat to sort them onto: 8 nouns, 8 verbs and 8 adjectives, mixed together on one cut-apart page. The child cuts, sorts and glues each card into Nouns, Verbs or Adjectives. The three mats start in different places, so the same 24 cards work for a child who needs a faint twin to match and a child who is ready to write each word under its group.

The 8 adjective pictures are faces: each shows how someone looks or feels, so hot and sick sit with happy and sad. The verb pictures show a person doing the action, but several of these words can also name a thing (a walk, a hug, a dance, a ride), so you decide once how you will mark that. 9 pictures have a second name a child may say (dog: puppy, ride: bike, happy: smiling, angry: mad, scared: worried, surprised: shocked, hot: sweaty, sick: fever, silly: goofy); the word is printed on every card, and the page lists them so you can decide before the first session.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

It is a fillable PDF: type into the log, graph, caseload page, family page, and probe-form headers, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document, and it is not a norm-referenced or standardized test.

It carries no teaching, cueing or modeling script. It does not decide what counts as a correct sort, a criterion, or a typical rate for sorting words -- every one of those is your own call, written once and reused every session.

Who This Is For

Speech-language pathologists, special education teachers and paraprofessionals with young or pre-reading students who are working on nouns, verbs and adjectives, and the families who get the practice page sent home.
