About this resource
A paper lantern children build and hang, plus six flat lanterns to color, cut and glue, lantern writing, a flag banner and a word bank, in one print-and-go Ramadan craft for PreK to 2nd grade.
The six flat lanterns come in different shapes (tall, star, moon, diamond, round and arch) with crescents and stars to color. Children color the pieces, cut straight lines and glue each piece on its faint twin, so the six pieces make the whole lantern. Glue it on card stock, cut around the lantern, punch a hole in the ring and tie a string to hang it. Every glue box is exactly the size of its piece.
Every lantern comes in two versions: black-and-white outline pieces to color (ink-saver friendly) and a ready-colored set to cut and glue when coloring is not the goal that day. Then children write on a lantern ("Ramadan is...") at two levels: sentence starters with a word bank, or five open lines. A family page asks children to draw their family and finish "During Ramadan my family" and "On Eid we". Every student page has one short instruction with a picture and a "My name" line.
Respectful and informational. There are no people, no faces and no religious text: only lanterns, crescents and stars. The unit names Ramadan as a month many families observe and teaches no beliefs or practices. The family page does not assume anything about a child's family, and the Start Here page suggests a way for any child to take part.

Cutting Built For Small Hands
Every cutting page has big pieces lined up edge to edge, so each cut is one straight line. 110 pieces to cut in all (72 flat lantern pieces, 24 banner flags and 14 strip and handle pieces). You will need crayons, scissors, glue sticks, string and a hole punch.
Who This Is For
PreK to 2nd grade classrooms, self-contained special education classrooms, and paraprofessionals who want a lantern craft with writing attached, ready to print.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A printable PDF (print and cut). It is not Google Slides, Docs or PowerPoint, and it has no fillable fields. It is not a lesson on beliefs or practices, and it makes no claim about any student's age or rate of progress.
