About this resource

EVERYTHING INSIDE — 23 pages, 222 type-in fields

A short picture story for the moment an adult says no — ask, hear no, feel a feeling, take a breath and stay calm, try again later or a different way — shown as a six-sentence story, as cut-apart pocket cards, and as a practice page, with a log, a weekly roll-up and a phrase bank behind it, so a moment a student needed help with turns into a line on a page a case manager can bring to a meeting.

The Story, The Strip And The Practice Page

Every picture was chosen to be named in one word, in color AND in the black-and-white set, and rendered at print size before it was used; the module's own notes record why no picture stands for "breath" and why the adult's "no" is pictured as a gesture, not a face.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

It is a fillable PDF: type into the log, the roll-up, the family page, the hand-off page and the write-your-own page, or print and use a pen. The story and strip pages print on plain paper or cardstock; the strip cuts along dashed lines. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document.

It is a posted, numbered picture story for one moment, and a place to record whether the student stayed calm. It is not a behavior plan, a procedure for how to prompt a step, or a finding about why a student struggles with "no," and it supplies no prompt hierarchy, fading schedule or mastery rule. How it is used with a student, and for how long, is what your team's plan says. The goal line and the criterion field are blanks for your district's own wording and your team's own number.

Who This Is For

Special education teachers, school counselors and case managers teaching a concrete response to hearing no from an adult, and the families who get the home page sent home.

More In The Collection

This is a single in the Visual Supports Collection, alongside Social Stories When Someone Is Unkind and 4-Step Apology Picture Cards and Practice Sequence; more picture-card sets are being added to the collection regularly, all on the same story-plus-data shape.
