About this resource
Seven writing IEP goals, one probe set each: paragraph writing, topic sentence and supporting details, sentence expansion, writing fluency, editing paragraphs, handwriting fluency, and combining sentences with conjunctions. Every set has its own goal page, equivalent probe forms, a scoring key or guide, and a data log with a graph scaled to the probe, so a written-expression goal gets a weekly number the same way a reading or math goal does.
The seven cover the writing skills that usually turn up on one caseload at once. Two are scored writing samples: a paragraph written to a narrative, opinion or informative prompt and scored on a fixed ten-point rubric, and a timed writing-fluency probe counted as total words written and words spelled correctly. Three are fixed-key choice probes a paraprofessional can score in seconds: pick the topic sentence or the best supporting detail from lettered sentences, pick which of two expansions adds the named kind of detail (where, when, how, why, what kind), and pick which of two versions correctly combines two sentences with a named conjunction. One is an editing probe where the student finds ten built-in mistakes in a short paragraph and writes each fix, scored as three separate counts (capitalization, punctuation, spelling). One is a timed handwriting probe where the student copies printed letters and words, with a separate untimed formation checklist so speed and quality never hide each other.

What Every File Contains
- A goal page: what the probe measures, a sample goal (invented, every bracket edited by your team), the goal frame as type-in fields, a baseline table for three probes and the median, benchmark rows, and directions for giving and scoring the probe
- The probe forms: equivalent forms (A-F in six of the sets, A-D in the handwriting set), so a change in the score is the student and not the form
- A scoring key or scoring guide for every form, with a score box per form
- A data log and graph: rows for repeated probes, a y-axis already scaled to the probe, the aim line drawn first
- A caseload summary, a family or team update page, and a filled-in example for an invented student
What This Is, And What It Is Not
Fillable PDFs. Goal pages, the name and date boxes on the probe forms, and the data logs are type-in fields: click, type, Save As once per student. The probe forms are meant to be printed: one copy per student per week, the student writes on the form, and that same sheet is the one you score. Works offline with no account or subscription; nothing scores the writing or draws the graph for you. Not Google Slides, not Google Docs, not PowerPoint.
Not a norm-referenced assessment. No benchmark scores, no "typical" rates; the criteria in the sample goals are in brackets because your team sets them from the baseline and the student's IEP. Five of the seven sets are untimed on purpose and their goal pages say so; the writing fluency and handwriting fluency sets are timed, with the timing written on the form so the condition stays the same all year.
Who This Is For
Second through fifth grade special education teachers and case managers writing written-expression, editing and handwriting goals, intervention teachers, and the paraprofessionals who give the weekly probe. Two of the sets (sentence expansion and handwriting fluency) reach down to the primary grades.
