About this resource
A child who has just had a hard moment can think about it on paper. This restorative sheet comes in three levels, so the same routine works for a child who needs pictures, a child who can write a paragraph, and a child who is ready to make a plan and write a letter. Every child page has a My name line, one short instruction and room to write. Type into it or print it.
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 19 pages
- Level 1, pick a picture (4 pages): What Happened? with 9 picture choices; How Did We Feel? with 5 feeling pictures and 5 "who felt something" pictures; How Can I Make It Better? with 8 picture choices; and 9 Fix-It Cards to cut in one 3 by 3 block (8 picture cards and 1 blank "my own idea" card)
- Level 2, write it out (2 pages): Think About It with 4 big ruled boxes, and Make It Right with 4 more
- Level 3, repair and apology (3 pages): My Repair Plan with 3 steps, who each is for, by when and a Done box; My Apology Letter with 4 sentence starters; and Talk It Over, a two-column partner talk page
- Reflection Log and Roll-Up: 16 rows and a place to type the counts for each level
- A note home with blanks in your own words
- A phrase bank of 32 starters in 8 groups
- A filled example: 5 logged sheets, one repair plan, every count re-added from its own table (the children are invented)
- A binder cover, a spine label and 8 cut-apart tabs
- Start Here, a contents page with page thumbnails, and a "what's next" back page
Shapes, not numbers, mark the levels on the child's page (circle, square, triangle), so children do not compare.
How To Use It
1. Pick the level that fits the child and print that page.
2. Sit with the child. They tap, write or plan in their own words or pictures.
3. Type one row on the log and send the note home if you like.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: the fields are built into the document, so it works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT a Google Slides, Google Docs or PowerPoint file, and it does not decide what happens after a sheet. You cannot drag the boxes around or restyle the pages.
Pictures are Google Noto Emoji (Apache License 2.0), credited on the last page.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten through fifth grade classroom teachers, special education teachers, counselors and paraprofessionals who want a calm way for a child to think back, make it right and move on, and the families who hear about it.
